Hey. This is only my second post or something. I have a question about what kind of research experiences Medical schools like to see.

I am currently a sophomore, graduating in 2012, and majoring in physics.

I have applied to some undergraduate research programs in Physics because I was considering becoming a physicist.

At the same time, I am already conducting research in a lab at my university, and could also apply for a research grant (University scholars) and publish in an undergraduate research journal, and stay here over the summer.

The main reason I wanted to do an external internship/program was because I wanted to test out a new school/atmosphere/state/work environment.
However I understand that not being here over the summer will mean I miss out on progressing on my condensed matter project here, and I will not get to be a University Scholar or publish in an undergraduate journal.

tl;dr: Do you think I should do the scholarship here at my college over the summer, or take the internship (at IBM/Fermilab/MIT )? (Taking the liberty of assuming I receive both options). New experience/new town versus publishing in my university's undergrad journal? Stipends are about the same.

Thanks for any help! I hope I am not violating any forum etiquette- I was in a rush and did not get a chance to read about it first

I second the internship. You may meet people who could further your career. The internship is once in a lifetime experience, while you may help out at your university another time.
