I'm going to be a sophomore in undergrad right now, hopefully to pursue a career in the health field, and recently starting looking into podiatry. A family friend is a podiatrist in my city and I plan on shadowing him in the upcoming months to really get a taste of the haps.

I was also researching the different schools and came across the internships that some of the schools offer.

Most of the requirements include atleast 60 credit hours, a certain gpa, letters of rec, etc..but I was wondering, who are the internships predominantly geared towards (educationally)? What type of demographic generally attend them? what exactly goes on during them?

I really appreciate the help guys!

They are geared towards getting people to go to their school. I went to one and it wasn't very good. All I saw were patients getting their toenails clipped. It kind of bummed me out.

Basically, it's like a tour that is stretched out for anywhere from 3 days to 5 days ( depending on the program).

They are not really geared towards any demographic. The students who do the internships do have an advantage though. I know that at Des Moines, the students in the internships get an interview on the last day of the internship and when they submit their application in the future and the application is on par to the average (mcat score, gpa etc), then they are automatically accepted. The interview they did during the internship is in their file and it counts as the admissions interview so they do not need to go interview again.

Wait what, really? I did the program at DMU last summer and that is not at all how it went down for us....

I know they changed it a bit, but this seems a bit suspect? Did you go this summer?

Hmm, maybe I got it confused with another internship program? I was pretty sure it was DMU... maybe it was Temple?
