Any advice on how to look and get one, and when? Starting school in two weeks working part time in a pharmacy that has all internship positions in our region filled 🙁 I talked to some recruiters and put apps in but nothing. Some say wait for school to start--Walgreens said they don't hire until after your first year. There is a recruiting fair but it isn't until November...

What do your state laws dictate? Some require you to complete your P1 year before you're eligible to be an intern while some allow you so long as you're accepted into the professional phase of the program.

I inquired about an intern position a few weeks back when I was looking at apartments. I went in person and left my resume for the pharmacy manager. Called the next day, and got a verbal offer to work. It does help that I'm staying within the same company, but this is how you network. Apply as early as you can and utilize your current pharmacists to vouch for you if you're applying to another store!

I'm looking for a paying part time job. So, what do I apply for on the Walgreens and Rite Aid apps: technician or intern? I think their use of the word "intern" is not the unpaid IPPE, but a paid position. Please advise.

I'm not familiar with NC state law, but I'll bump this so perhaps someone who is can comment.

It sounds like you'd be considered a technician if you want a job now.

When applying for a job at a retail pharmacy in NC, you should apply as an intern if you have already started pharmacy school. Pay rate for interns is typically higher than technicians.

I know that you said you would not be starting school for another 2 weeks, but by the time you finish interviewing you should be well on your way in school.

It took me until my first summer to land an internship....and I landed 2.

Just try and work PT anywhere if you need the cash. Otherwise just be patient.

I already have me extern license--in fact I was required to get it before school started and accumulate 200 hours over the summer unpaid. That's done. So legally I can work as an intern.
