Just curious to what this is? I've been offered a great position for locums. I actually have my license in two states currently, but this is in a different state. Position opens soon, but they stated if I have interstate medical licensure compact I may qualify. What is this, what are it's uses, drawbacks and benefits, and other things I need to know before pursuing further? Thanks everyone!

Sounds like a service that's contracted with state licensing boards to streamline licensing. Looks like the downsides are you have to pay $700 to use the service and if you move/change state where your primary license is you have to jump through a bunch of hoops. Website for the Compact is listed below, but if someone else participates in it maybe they can give more details and potential downsides. Looks like 40 states participate, so if you're looking at doing locums frequently or telehealth to multiple states seems like a pretty great resource.

It does speed up getting licensure in a new state.
For adding a license in Texas there are 2 key facts - you must have a license in some other state first, and you must be board certified first.

I was initially very excited for this, believing it would grant me licenses in participating states. Unfortunately, I was wrong--it just makes applying for the license easier. You still have to pay each state's fee. This is great for states like PA, where it's like 30 bucks, but it could get cost-prohibitive adding a bunch of states.

Might just get myself a Missouri license for $75!
