Is anyone going to an interview at the University of Wisconsin-Madison? or has anyone been to an interview at that school? Can you tell me how it went? If the faculty are nice and etc? The school wasn't listed in the interview feedback. 😕 Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have an interview there? I know somebody that has an interview date, but I don't know when it is. I'll try and find out.

I am from that area and have visited the pharmacy school twice. The staff and students seemed to be very friendly and helpful in answering all of my many many questions. I loved the campus in Madison, just beautiful.. (besides some annoying construction). I didn't apply there because it is a 4- year program and my husband is a San Diego native and probably would hate the weather there. Most of my family lives there still though.

I know for the most part, UW does not conduct interviews. Acceptance is only based on numbers. Unfortunately, you need to have a very high GPA and high PCAT to be accepted into UW.

This is interesting because my friend's GPA/ PCAT are not stellar. Maybe that is why she is getting an interview. She told me she had 7 interview dates to choose from.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember reading on their website that this is the first year they are having interviews at UW. Also, I remember coming across something on their site mentioning that they will be interviewing all applicants.

I had an interview at Madison yesterday, and yes everyone does get an interview, and this is the first year. They asked questions about your behavior like what you did in given situation. They also give you a few minutes to just tell them about yourself.

Is there additional questions besides situations that we should look out for?

They really just asked me two questions, which was kind of surprising. There are many people doing the interviewing, (I estimate at least a dozen), so your interview might be different.

I don't know how many people they interviewed (they interviewed everyone that applied), but looking at the most recent statistics on their website, the acceptance rate is almost exactly 33%. Also, the Average Gpa is over 3.7, I think almost 3.8. Thier average PCAT composite was 89%. Those statistics were for the fall of 04.

I am not from Madison, I don't know much about the City, other than it is about as typical of a college town as it gets. Lots of young people, and not much parking. The city is rather unique since the downtown in between 2 lakes.

Madison was voted the best city to live in twice, I believe, by Fortune Magazine. The UW campus itself is also the second largest campus in terms of student size - Ohio State being the largest - iirc.

Hey pharmchick34. I got an interview at UW for January 19. Don't know how it's going to go. Doesn't really matter since I got accepted to Midwestern. I'll tell you how it goes.

Congratulations on your acceptance to Midwestern, soccerfreak! Did you know anyone that got accepted in the past from Midwestern that was on the alternate list? I really wanted to get accepted to Midwestern CCP, but was placed on the alternate list.

Wisconsin sounds tough to get into. I'm sure there's a lot of people applying to that school and 33% acceptance rate sounds very small. I'm so nervous!!! Thanks for your input royalbean!

Madison is wonderful. Do you have children? The atmosphere in the suburbs is very family-oriented and relaxed. I live in California now and when ever I go and visit my family there I feel "like I can breathe". I know that may sound cheesy, but that is a good way for me to describe it.

The city itself is very diverse, it boosts great shopping, restaurants, cultural sites like museums and of course there is the college aspect of it. Lake Mendota is a hot spot for outdoor activites (the college sits on the lakefront). If you travel a bit outside Madison to the west you will encounter the Wisconsin Dells, that has a bunch of activites like boating, "duck rides" (I'll let you figure that one out! 🙂 ), amusement parks and it is known as the Indoor Waterpark capital of the US. If you like football, then you are going to be in the right place. Wisconsin is very loyal to their teams (Packers and Badgers), even when they are not doing so hot... I don't have to mention what team that would be.. 😛 . It is a fun atmosphere to be in though.

I could go on and on!

I am flying out to wisconsin this week. After reading your response, its making me really excited 😍 ! I read in the internet that we cannot really do much snowboarding, skiing, snow-mobiling, or skating at the time because the lake is not completely frozen and theres not much snow since it only about 40 degrees.

Is there any restaurants that you would recommend going to or any special meal that only wisconsin has that I should try 😛 ?

Madison has a lot of great restaurants like the Luna Cafe and The Aveune.

Wisconsin does have a few speciality foods such as the famous Friday night fish frys (not my cup of tea, but they are popular there), and the Ponzarada (deep fried pizza, and yes it is so so yummy! 😍 ). I have never seen anything like it anywhere. There is a pizza place called Jimmy Grottos in Wisconsin that serves them, but I don't think Madison has one, which is really too bad because I would definately say that is a must to try. If you go to a pizza place maybe ask if they have them. The other yummy food that Wisconsinites love is Racine Kringles. They are a type of sweet, thin, danish pastry that is great with coffee or espresso.

Oh, the Duck Rides at the Dells are most likely closed for the winter! Sorry!
You might want to go to Baraboo (home of Barnum and Bailey Circus) or to any of the breweries there. Have fun, I wish I were going! 🙂

I would only say don't come to Wisconsin if you're not ready to handle a real winter. The school NEVER cancels classes for snow, and you really have to walk everywhere on campus (no underground tunnels like Minnesota). So hiking on your boots at 7:30 am when it's 20 below outside to attend your physics discussion isn't really a nice way to start the day.

We are mostly know for beer, brats and football. #1 party school in the nation this year (although I don't think that's true) and we always have riots on Halloween on State Street, which are fun if you don't get pepper sprayed. Just kidding.

This winter has been pretty mild so there's not much winter stuff to do right now, and all the summer stuff is closed for the season. There are lots of bars and restaurants, malls, comedy clubs, theaters, etc to visit though.
