Interventional Cardiology Interviews 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi all,

Thanks for the great information. Would it be possible to list the interview dates in addition to the programs? I am planning to apply in the following interview cycle (2013 - 2014) and would like some some guidance about how to schedule my rotations/vacation weeks then. I am particularly interested in Midwest programs however any assistance/guidance in general would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Catcavendish,
As you can see there is no well defined application "season" and programs interview all way from January to October or later, so it depends on the programs you are interested in the Midwest. Most programs I have heard interview by March or so but if you are into more competitive programs such as Mayo or Harvard programs you may have to interview earlier as you can see from the thread. If you want specific programs you can post their names and someone who got an interview this year may respond.
Hope that helps,
more hypo less manic today

Dartmouth-Hitchcock is a 1-year program with an option to stay a 2nd year as a junior attending (perform your own caths/see your own pts) while focusing on research.

Hi, guys. Just wanted to see what thoughts any one has out there. Just received offers from Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State and University of Rochester. DMC is great w/ volume and breadth of procedures but will end up working all waking hours in the lab and CCU call and my family hating me but Schreiber and Grines are there. University of Rochester is not bad but is in Rochester and somewhat limited peripherals. Not sure which is better in the long run or maybe decline both and keep interviewing?

Interviews gone to:
U of Rochester
NYU
Dartmouth-Hitchcock
Aurora - filled
ECU - filled
U of Utah
St. Elizabeth's Boston
DMC/Wayne State
St. Luke's/Roosevelt NYC

Interviews to go:
Mount Sinai
Harbor UCLA
UT Houston
NY Methodist

Just not sure how far we are into the interview season and the risk involved turning both down. Would appreciate any input!

Congratulations for the offers. Seems like both the programs are good and the way programs are filling this yr, i would suggest to consider the options seriously. Good luck.

DMC is a high volume prog. There might be more academic options in U of R.
btw How's St Elizabeth? They seem to have great peripherals volume, even with 1 yr program. How does it compare with NY methodist? Also is it as malignant as DMC/ ocshner/ Mount Sinai?

You're right about DMC. Not sure if the pluses outweigh the negatives, though (5-11 PM, CCU call and rounding w/ fellows every 4th week). U of R is highly academic but 95-100% radials plus they have to double scrub to get peripheral numbers. Not sure if limited femoral training is going to hurt especially if one wants to do more than coronaries. St. Elizabeth's is nice. Adequate coronary numbers and loads of peripherals from EVAR to venous ablations. Garcia is still there and is not leaving anytime soon.Only drawback is that it's not a university program so not sure how that will factor in when it comes to job hunting. It's not malignant like the triumvirate; 8-5 PM, call is Q4, and fellows seem happy. They've also offered me a spot so that's another monkey wrench thrown in. I go to NY Methodist in 2 weeks so I can let you know then.

Does anyone know if NYU gave out offers or filled?

To all the colleagues who have received interviews and offers from various programs, congratulations!

It will really help other forum members and applicants for the next cycle (2015) if you can post your credentials in your posts, with programs where you matched (if that's not a lot of information). The following format will really help.

US/Foreign graduate:
Publications:
Meeting abstracts:
In-house (Yes/No):
Number of interviews:
Average number of programs applied to:
Visa requirements (Yes/No):
If yes, J1 or H1-B:

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Hi,

Any idea about University of Louisville? how is the program in comparison to Lexington?. Any inputs are appreiated.

Thank you guys.

Does anyone know of programs that accept application this late? Thanks.

I know North Shore LIJ and Lenox hill in NY start looking at application late April and may so u should try there.

Programs that have not 'yet' offered IVs:
Brown University
Lenox Hill Hospital
NSLIJHS/Hofstra North Shore-LIJ
Ochsner Clinic
UCSF
UCSD
Tulane University

Some other programs that have filled:
Scripps Clinic, CA
Beth Israel, Boston

I know very well about Tulane, they did hire a very good faculty member from JHU but their program is at best the average program - not much peripheral volume and structural training is almost non-existant.

Besides there is heavy competetion for patient volume from other programs nearby - one of the fellows I know was telling me about how cath volumes have dropped more than usual for the area at Tulane.

He howevevr also told me that folks are wonderful to work with and the atmosphere was very collegial.

Indiana University Filled

Umass, U of Minnesota and U of Cinn have sent IVs

Anyone have any information about the Drexel or USF programs? Thanks!

Any news of UAB
Are they filled
How is their program

Both positions were internally filled. It is a relatively strong southern program at par with UNC & UVA, below Duke, Emory & Vandy. Not very strong with peripherals and average structural. Hope this helps.

Thanks on the info on UAB
What about Kalamazoo and Toledo
