Excuse my ignorance, but is it commonplace for Physiatrists to perform interventional procedures like Vertebroplasty, Kyphoplasty, etc? I thought these were IR procedures while PM&R did more injections. Thanks.
Even if you are trained, it may not be easy to get privileges when you are done to do kyphoplasty, in particular. Since you can only get paid if the patient stays overnight given the current state of CPT and ICD-9 coding for the procedure, a surgicenter is not the answer, and that makes reimbursement for kyphopasties a huge problem.
