Interested in Int Rads but wondered if there were any accelerated programs that specialize in Int rads. Looking for a program that may give me more exposure to int rads early in my residency. Also, how competitive are these programs should they exist? 255 and hopefully AOA but no research. Do I stand a chance at some big gun institutions? Thanks.

You could go to a residency that lets you specialize in the 4th year but For IR you have to do a fellowship to sit for the CAQ anyways so whats the point?

IR is an easy fellowship to match. A large number of positions didn't fill last year. Most people should have no problem matching a good program.

Responses much appreciated. Looking to match out west in the Colorado, Utah, etc area ideally. Any thoughts on good rads programs in good driving distance of fresh powder. Thanks again.

Today it is... it's a real buyer's market nowadays with Rads fellowships, what with Gen Rads offers being so attractive. Wonder how it will be in 4-5 years though... tough to predict... 😕.

Any theories?

Fellowship competitiveness is always depedent on the job market. When the market was way down in the mid 90s, everybody did fellowships. I met some guys that did 2 or 3 before so they could have a better chance of landing a job. Landing a body imaging fellowship and a good program was difficult if you could believe that.

IR I doubt will ever be as competitive as it was in the mid 90s because it will keep losing ground in turf battles and the surgery lifestyle is not what people go into rads for. Th popularity is waning.
