Have any of you guys with a misdemeanor or felony been offered an interview or acceptance. If you have, can you please state what your arrest was for?

Sometimes I wonder if someone like Michael Vick quit football and tried to go back and do medical school. I bet he'd get in somewhere.

Sorry that was not directly related

Is there any difference if these misdemeanors/felonies were commited as a juvenile?

I'm sure the longer you have been clean the better your application will be. I just wanted to see if there were people on SDN that have had an interview or acceptance.

On a similar note, I've always wondered what would happen if a celebrity applied. Every little thing about them is public information, and the attention they get, even for just going out to a club, seems like it would really hurt their chances. But on the other hand, how many schools can say that they have an intelligent, ex-hollywood celebrity at their school? Not that's diversity... 👍

James Franco UH next year.

I just received a secondary from FAU which explicitly states that people with felonies need not apply. You could go school by school which is probably the best policy. Get on the phone and try to talk to some dean's at the school's where your stats are competitive. good luck.

Yea I was about to say this as well. I think misdemeanor sometimes can be explained away but felony closes doors at many if not most schools. It kind of makes sense since with a misdemeanor you can still be licensed but with a felony it's very hard to get licensed.

From what I read, he is getting a PhD there... I could be wrong. But still, HOLY CRAP, that guys education section on Wikipedia is unlike anything I have ever seen. I am blown away. I lost count of how many degrees he has and how many schools he has gone to! Thanks for sharing!

So, it looks as if an applicant with a record (felony) might have a struggle. The question is this. If a student has deferred adjudication for a felony arrest (agg assault) does this mean that all medical schools will shy away from considering, interviewing, and perhaps accepting the student? What if the student has a perfect GPA and great MCAT scores. And everything else as just as dandy as can be? Does anybody know of any medical schools where a felony candidate was given acceptance? Etc.

I think it varies greatly from school to school and no definitive answer can be given from sdn. I remember some valuable poster said that if you answer yes to the criminal record question on the primary your app will go to the bottom of the pile.

Don't know about felonies, but I have some experience with other offenses. Send me a PM.

Most people that get interviews/acceptances with misdemeanors have only committed petty "crimes". I say "crimes" because jailing anyone for a fake ID, open container outside of a bar/sporting event, underage drinking in college, or other such silly thing is in my opinion idiotic, usually a waste of time, and doesn't mean anything. These should not be considered crimes. In any case, I am fairly certain a felony would prevent matriculation, or even eligibility to apply. There are always unique situations though. A record of repeated misdemeanors though would definitely hurt you. Everyone makes mistakes, but we should be learning from them.

2 misdemeanors, 7 interviews, 1 acceptance so far but waiting on others...
