Hi all!

So I got an interview invite to NYMC (in Valhalla, NY), and I'm planning on how I want to get there, and sleep.

Considering I don't want to carry much baggage, I've been considering what I want to do regarding my sleeping situation. NYMC has a host program, but they're wanting us to bring our own sleeping bags.

Which makes sense (DUH), but flying from Seattle...that means I'll be bringing a suit bag, sleeping bag, and my own clothes in another bag. I don't fly much, but this might be a lot to manage esp. since I'll be walking a fair amount as well.

So, I've been considering using an emergency blanket (you know, the ones you get in like preschool/elementary for your disaster kits?) as a replacement for the sleeping bag. I could probably pack a few flannel/fleece blankets in my suitcase, just for additional padding/comfort.

What do you guys think? I feel like my host will think of me as crazy, but I want to minimize me carrying so much junk around. Any other suggestions, or suggestions on getting to NYMC/staying there?

Well you can rewear jeans unless you will be in New York for a while. Just bring an extra pair of underwear, socks and a shirt. That's not actually a lot of stuff, just get a big travel bag and you can put most of your things there while carrying your suit or something like that.

Also remember to check the weather. It got pretty cold yesterday, so a sweater wouldn't go amiss.

There are sleeping bags that squish up to be super tiny and go inside their own bag. I would think that would be a lot more comfortable.

I think you will be fine asking if they have a couch/blanket. I would by all means avoid sleeping on someone's floor. If you're anything like me, the sleep will be terrible and you'll be really sore the next day.

DynoCaps FTW!!!

Plus what sort of person would make you stay on the floor lmao. I would prob make the guy dinner and feed him a few brews and let him see what being a med student is really like vs what premeds think its like (preclinical anyway)!
