So I just got my email from Kent State saying they want me to interview!😀😀😀. Anyone on here who has been accepted or already interviewed have any insights on what to expect during the interview?

Yeah I interviewed in September and decided to commit to Kent. The interview process is extremely relaxed and the staff is very nice and informative. You just go on tour of the campus and meet the dean and some of the staff and students. You cover pretty much any questions you have and go over financial aid details, research opportunities, and a few other things. I was done by 1 or 2 o'clock I believe. The interview itself lasted about 5 or 10 minutes for myself at most. During the interview I think I was asked...What led me down the path to choose podiatry? What I liked most about the Dr. I shadowed? What was the most interesting thing I saw in my shadowing experience? What qualities do you think will help you be successful in podiatry school? ... I think that was about it though. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the insight! A lot of the reviews about the interview say it is really relaxed. Hopefully mine will be too. I'm not sure how I'll deal with the cold though being a Floridian who's never seen snow. 😵.

Mine went exact same way and it was in November. I did have a question of why podiatry, why not DO? Just look over your app and have answers for any red flags. The whole day is really laid back and admissions ppl are really nice. Good luck and hopefully we see you in the fall!

Here is how it went about 45 minute coffee meet and greet, 30 minute talk by the dean, talk by Dean of student affairs on topics such as housing insurance etc, tour of campus, student panel (you are in a conference room just students and interviewees really chill) financial aid presentation. Lunch with students a few faculty, attend a real class for about 30 mins (real interesting prof I wish I could have stayed). Research director presentation on what their current projects are and then closing remarks from Dean of Student Affairs and Carla.

During the day they pull people aside one by one for your interview, everyone interview was 15 minutes.
Interview was with Carla Rosenbaum and one of the DPM profs. It was more intense than Scholl or DMU (I had a 2.9gpa so they were latching on to that I guess) they also asked if you do not get in to DPM school what will you do. Other than that it was your run of the mill "why podiatry." Honestly I do not see myself going there, but I will say they had some of the nicest people I have seen. Relax and enjoy the day it will not be bad at all.

My interview was right before lunch so it was literally five minutes, just asking about why Kent and for some reason brought up my Orgo II grade.

it was literally five minutes

Maybe it is just me but I would be frustrated if I plan out an interview that I have been dreaming to have and preparing for it for months (technically years), take the time to drive to Kent State just to be interviewed for only 5 minutes.

Personally, I would feel terrified if they only gave me a 5 minute interview. To me I would think that they realized I was not giving good in depth answers and maybe just one sentence answers. I feel as if a 5 minute interview is maybe 2 questions they ask you. I would feel insulted to be given only 5 minutes to explain why you deserve a spot at their podiatry school

Maybe that is just me.

I was interviewed in October. Just relax and be yourself. The qustions are geared towards getting to know you, your interest in podiatry and why that particular school. No worries. Gluck 😀

I could see how you could feel that way and I don't blame you...the way that I think of it is if you get invited for an interview they already feel you are fit to be in pod school and want you to come to their school. I only interviewed at Kent so I can't speak for any other school but when I was there the whole day was great. They were selling us on the school, and why wouldn't they as we are investing a lot of money in them and have other options (schools) we can go to. My interview was right after lunch and was (gasp!) 10 minutes long, so mine musta been really really good. But seriously think about it, they wouldn't waste their time or your money/time to come out to interview if they weren't seriously considering you and ready to accept you-atleast that's how I felt at the Kent interview process. That doesn't mean I didn't sweat it out, but as the day went on it was very enjoyable and easy going. You will do great and I would go in with questions about why the school would be a good fit for you and try to enjoy it.👍

Thanks for all the feedback! Upvote for everyone who has provided their insights 👍

The good news with Kent is that even if your interview last 5 mins, you spend the whole day touring the school, sitting in class, and getting as much info you need to be ready to start in the fall (housing, financial aid, etc). From what others have said on here, Kent usually ends the day around 2 pm (ours ended around 1:30 since we only had 3 ppl interview that day). To me that's a lot better then driving 7 hours for a 20 minute interview at 9:30 am and my day being over by 10 am (which as happened to me before).

Finally, my interview lasted about 20 minutes, but it felt like 5 bc it went so well. Maybe that's they case for others as well

Is this the only school everyone interviewed at? I just got an invitation to Des Moines today also.

It was for me b/c my wife and I are originally from OH and our families still live in the area. That way when I am studying every moment of my life, my wife can see family and friends. Add the fact she's licensed to teach in Ohio, Kent became the only choice for us. I know BillBob is in a similar situation since we interviewed together lol.

With that said congrates on getting the interview to DMU. From what I read on these forums you've been invited to visit two of the nicest facilities pod schools have to offer. Speaking on Kent's behalf, their facility is much better then the med school I'm currently enrolled at receiving my masters. Both schools have been around awhile now and have great reputations in getting you into a residency. I would have liked to see DMU, but like I said, Kent is the perfect match for me and my wife. Good Luck!👍

What is the student panel part of the interview day at kent? Also does kent offer conditional acceptances?

The admission personal leave the conference room and it's just you and a few current students, usually first years. Essentially it's an opportunity where you can ask them some questions the admission staff may not be able to answer, or answer differently (for example do they like the area, they like the school, how are classes/professors, their study habits and test schedules). Again, really laid back and very comforting talking to people who were in your shoes not so long ago.

Ya it didn't feel like a 'student panel' at all, just visiting with the students who had given us the tour as well. Very chill but informative and come with all sorts of questions-random ones that they can answer like what computer to bring, how much free time you will have during the day, what books will you need to purchase, areas where they live, clubs, and the list goes on and on.

Just got my interview invitation today from Kent State. This thread is helpful thanks!!

Got accepted today!!!!

Congrats! If you decide to go to Kent join the Facebook group, they've been posting housing info and important dates for orientation, white coat ceremony, and first day of class.

Congrats! I have an interview March 15th and I'm nervous!!!!

Thanks guys!! I'm going to pay my deposit soon for kent state. I joined the Facebook page yesterday. Anyone already found an apartment or already know where they are going to live? Also, how are you guys preparing (buying any kind of books that would help, or any other school related essentials etc..)?

my interview at Kent (Ohio) last year was just as described and the best interview day I experienced. They definitely know how to do it right.

I have an interview at kent on March 15 and just received an invite from DMU. To be honest, my stats are low for DMU so I wonder if I should take the time to fly out there, if I really have a chance and all that but I can't miss the opportunity. I guess they interview 150 and offer to 90 so I have a decent shot if I wow with my awesome personality.

3.0 19R, I think I am retaking the MCAT in april, not sure yet, I was trying to avoid it. But at $300 for a flight out for one night, I think I am going to call admissions and talk to them first.

Wow those are pretty low stats for this late in the cycle, did you have something else to wow the admissions commitee? Also what was your sgpa?

Thanks?? Yea I have kick ass extra curriculars. I didn't study a whole lot for the mcat I kept putting it off and off and oh no it's game day

If DMU is somewhere you really want to go, then you should absolutely do it. Your entire pod med education is an experience, including interviewing. You have as good a shot as anyone, since you've been invited. Go and Wow them. 👍

Take the interview. I turned down a fairly generous renewable scholarship from one school because I absolutely fell in love with the campus and surrounding area of another one (the last school I interviewed at, in fact). I honestly was not expecting to change my mind but I did. Fortunately, I don't have any undergraduate loans or debt so scholarships aren't as huge a necessity for me.

In the end, you should go where you will be most comfortable and can easily see yourself living.

Deleonrg what is your science gpa? And im sorry about saying your stats are low, i didnt mean it in that way, i just meant that i thought the schools get really picky with stats at this point in the cycle so i didnt think they still accepted 3.0 gpas and 18-19 mcat scores.

I'm not talking about my GPA anymore sorry. Kent did day they may ask me to take the MCAT again but hopefully I'll wow them enough idk. We shall see.

I think you should go ahead and interview. If you interview goes well and they like you, they will offer an conditional acceptance. And when your scores come out you will be ahead of schedule and the admission committee will probably get back with you quickly. Interview is a big key for you. Good luck, hopefully you can join us!

Of course. I interview on Friday. It's my top choice. I've started studying again for it. Idk when I am retaking it. Hopefully I won't have too but this time I should actually study I suppose

Good luck on Friday and with your decision on DMU. Just stay relaxed and be honest with them if anything comes up. That's always the best policy. Hopefully you'll get good news next week!

Interview at kent is completed. It was exactly what everyone said it would be. I'm exhausted now though.

They said they would let me know but overall the interview went really well. I feel like I was well spoken and mature so hopefully I'll just get in haha
