Hey guys,
Just need some advice...I got an interview at pacific just yesterday for an alternate position (must mean they filled their class)...question is do I go?

I have a spot at another school, Tufts, both are great schools and I'm not sure whether its worth it to interview for an alternate position. What would you guys do?

Hey, what date did Pacific give you for an alternate interview? I got a January interview a few weeks ago but they didn't explicitly state that it would be for an alternate position. They said they wouldn't really know until mid-January when deposits are due.

I would say whether or not to go depends on how much you want to go to Pacific. If you really love the school, it's worth going because you're giving yourself a chance. Not going = no chance.

Congratulations on Tufts btw! Boston is an awesome city.

Thanks! I got a voicemail that I found this morning (received friday), so I haven't even had time to actually schedule the interview. Thanks for the response, I'm in that in-between debating phase slash was wondering how possible it is to get off their wait list. I know some wait lists at other schools move very quickly...but I'm not sure a/b UoP....When's your interview? Congrats to you too!

I got my interview call back in November, and my interview is on Jan. 19. I asked about whether it was for an alternate position or not back when I scheduled my interview, but they said it was too early to tell since they hadn't even given out Dec. 1 acceptances. If you've got the time and the resources to head out there for an interview, I'd say go for it - at the very least it's a good excuse to visit one of the most beautiful cities in the nation. As far as how fast the alternate list moves, I'm not positive but I know there are at least a couple of threads about that on sdn. Plus if you really shine on interview day and your interview is in January or earlyish February, maybe you'll end up really high on their alternate list. I think the best thing to do would also be to call UoP and ask them what your chances are of getting a spot.

Personally, I am super excited about my UoP interview....got my fingers and toes crossed!

I got an interview last week for Jan. 30. I asked Janelle what the chances were that I would be accepted and she said she didn't know what the odds were. I talked to a friend who was accepted at UoP and he said he heard that you have a 50/50 chance of getting in this year, or being waitlisted. To the OP I would weigh it out based on costs for you to interview and how bad you would want to go there if you were accepted.

Agreed. Also, you do have tufts. So, if you would rather go to UoP than to Tufts, then I would highly consider it.

I am still waiting to hear from UOP 🙁

Thanks everyone! I agree with all the post, just needed to think it through and decided to interview - I'd rather give myself the opportunity than to shut it out. I really appreciate the help though and UoP is an amazing school, I would love to go there - its just hard when its for an alternate spot.

It is a little discouraging interviewing for an alternate spot, but alternates get in too. Best of luck!

Did Janelle tell you that the interview is for an alternative spot? I too got an interview invite in November for a mid-Jan interview date. She did not say it was for an alternative spot.

Good decision katwoman! Did you schedule your interview date yet? Take the earliest slot they've got available!

Dentalgirl - last time I checked it was not for an alternate spot. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

I saw somewhere else on this forum that very few alternate people actually come off the alternate list and matriculate there. If that could be verified, I'd take that in mind.

If UOP is some place you could honestly see yourself wanting to go i recommend interviewing... I interviewed in February of last year and almost everyone from my interview is in my dental class and at the time of our interview they said the class was full (but they hadn't received everyones deposit yet).
I am SOOOOOO glad i decided to go to my feb interview.... almost everyone in my interview had placed deposits elsewhere and most of us ended up here and we all love it (and i really must like it a lot if im willing tosay i love it while im studying for finals ha.)
good luck everyone who wants to come here... it really is great, the atmosphere is wonderful and everyone is super helpful and collaborative!

When in february did you interview? Was it early or late?

I dont know, during the year I interviewed for a waitlist spot, there were 9 people in the group and we had the 2nd to last interview group on 3/5. 5/9 students got in that year from my group!!! I guess this really depends from year to year. I didn't get in that year but I was accepted the year after on 12/1 without an interview! If UOP is your #1 choice, go interview and maybe you will get lucky and get in this year. If not there's always next year.
