I'm not as conservative as JT is as far as tie bars/ clips go. I actually like them.
Still, I'd be weary about wearing one to an interview (know your environment). If you're interviewing at a school in a city? Probably not a big deal. If you're interviewing in BFE? Yeah, just stick to a paper clip/ nothing at all.

I like em too. Similar to what you said, west coast is very laid back, so a tie bar would not be expected. East coast I would imagine in the cities they would be a norm.
That's not a fair statement. Tie-bars and watches are really the only professional jewelry men can wear. When they are small and subtle, they look nice and serve their purpose. When they're huge and distracting, they're just that: distracting.
