So I recently purchased a dark blue pantsuit and a slightly dark gray pantsuit.

Should I reconsider and play it safe by purchasing a black pantsuit instead?

Also, do women need to wear a button up shirt? Am I allowed to wear a formal blouse instead?

Why not yellow suit, pink blouse? You gotta stand out. Also dye your hair green.

But if you want to play it safe, any dark color you think is professional will work. Use your best judgement.

I saw someone with a white suit and she still looked very professional. I didn't wear button ups, I wore formal shirts from Ann Taylor.

Black suit looks professional. Although I interviewed someone once who came in a sweater who ended up being a star. Go figure.

I see... so as an interviewer, you would recommend to stick with a black suit to be safe?

I got my shirt from Ann Taylor too!! haha It's flowy but it's definitely for the workplace and my chest is covered.
Do you think it's still professional even if it's not tucked in? I'm not comfortable tucking the shirt in..

Don't try to blend in

I don't want to stand out crazily either haha
I thought gray and dark blue are common but I guess for interviews mostly everyone wears black..
Is that what you experienced in your interviews (people mostly wearing black)?

I tucked mine in because I was wearing a skirt, but with pants I don't think it matters whether you tuck your shirt in or not. I'm sure you'll look professional either way.

It's common for an interview session to look like a funeral procession. You say you don't want to stand out in a crazy way, that is smart, but you need to stand out somewhat for them to remember you. I always wore some color just to be different. Black slacks with a burgundy blazer, or a black pant suite with a red button up shirt. Girls can get away with more than boys can. Look professional but don't look like everyone else.

I wore black dress pants, a white sleeveless dress shirt tucked in, with a maroon blazer. Got in everywhere I interviewed so I don't think it hurt me. I wouldn't wear a sweater like someone mentioned another did. Stay with the professional attire, but throw in some color.

edit: You feeling confident is #1 though. So don't wear anything that'll make you spend more time worrying about your clothes on the interview day.

I wore a short black and white dress to my interviews and still got accepted.
