I was fortunate enough to play on a state championship baseball team in high school and am trying to decide whether to wear my ring to interviews. I'm very proud of it, but it's pretty gaudy and don't want to seem brash or like I'm trying to be the cool kid from high school. On the other hand, it could lead into an easy topic during the interview that shows my personality away from academics. Anyone have thoughts?

I have a few HS State Champ rings...I would probably not wear it. That's me, personally. Especially since it's high school and not college.

Idk if my input means anything as a girl, but I wouldn't wear it. I'm assuming its huge and blingy like typical championship rings? A good rule of thumb for jewelry (men and women) is that if it's not something you would wear daily, don't wear it to the interview. Women are advised to wear simple necklaces and small simple earrings. No statement pieces or colors. A gaudy ring would definitely be out of place, and you don't need a ring to start the conversation about baseball.

I suggest that you don't wear it. Remember that we are trying to prove to the interviewers that we are mature enough to attend their medical school. To me I don't think that wearing a ring from high school would accomplish that.

I wouldn't wear it. If you want a route to talk about baseball, maybe you could work being on the baseball team into one of your secondaries or interview answers.

Bring your macaroni/glue/paper plate artwork from 1st grade instead. The interviewers will be impressed you kept it, and marvel at the way the little elbow shaped pieces of pasta "work together" as a "team" to spell out "M-O-M."

No, don't wear it. Gaudy is not the look you're going for in med school interviews.

Thanks everyone for the input. I was leaning towards no and this made it an easy decision. The reason I asked was because I saw others at my first interview with big rings and hadn't thought about mine until now.

For those with sarcastic responses, I hope you find something that makes you happy in life.

Practically every interview that you do... go for the conservative side with a hint of style.
Like a particularly good tie and shirt pairing to a gray or black suit, with a nice watch.

The only rings that I could recommend are engagement or wedding rings.
Minimize the opportunities for someone to find a flaw in you as an applicant. 👍

And if you are a natural rebel at heart such as I am .... then take the best advice my uncle gave me years ago .... in some parts of life, you gotta "fake it till ya make it"

Not only should you wear the ring, I would also consider wearing your varsity jacket to the interview.

I have to agree.

He asked an honest question. Pity his ignorance but you don't have to try so hard to bash.

How I imagine resident's who flaunt their specialty to people trying to get into med school:
