Hey for those who have had interviews (and got accepted somewhere), I was just wondering...what should you actually wear to the interview? I know that you should wear a suit...but a suit really isn't "me", and I feel quite convinced that it will be painfully obvious how uncomfortable I am in it. I suppose a sport coat is too informal. I'm such a scumbag...I'm going to get a suit and then return it after the interviews are over. OK, I won't return it, but I'll want too. What do you guys think...navy blue? Is that kinda the standard? Maybe I will show up in flip flops and cut off khaki cargo pants to interviews at schools that I really don't want to go to...that would be rich. Anyway...

don't think about it too much man

dress in some dark suits ya that's nice.
make sure the colour of ur tie matches the colour of ur shirt... like yellow and blue.
don't do red and green, that's too chrismasy

Everyone told me to wear a jacket but it was too stuffy for me. I just wore a silk blue shirt with a silk yellow tie & got into everywhere I interviewed at. Yep, I wore the same get-up to all my interviews. Just make sure the belt looks new & shoes so polished you can use them as mirrors.

Well everyone wears a dark suit and black shoes (guys mainly, chicks too). I bought a couple of suits, one navy and one tan. I decided that comfort was an issue, so i made sure i was most comfortable when i chose them. When it comes time for the interview, i wore both and it didn't make any difference. Infact, at a couple of interviews I ran into other applicant who wore a shirt tie, and then a sweater ontop. So long your dressed "smart" and are neat and clean (respectful that is key) you will be fine. A shirt and khaki's won't do, but a nice pressed shirt and tie, with pressed trousers will be fine. Also make sure you shoes and belt match.....

I feel your pain! I had to wear a suit to my interview and I just felt so uncomfortable. It also didn't help that the shoulders were too wide and it made my head look small. I doubt the interview commitee is paying such close attention to what you wear. You could probably get away with just a tie, dress shirt, and slacks. But one thing to add is that all the male applicants in the waiting room with me wore a suit. One applicant wore a light colored suit so buy one that makes you feel comfortable. I really should not have bought black. I feel weird in black. I will say, I had the best tie in the room!

My opinions:

charcoal-colored! I also think chalkstrips are so chic, but I wouldnt be able to pull it off.

Don't wear a red tie nor a double-breasted suit. Those are for politicians/CEOs or anyone else in the power position.

If you wear a striped tie and striped shirt, make sure the stripes on the tie are larger than the stripes on the shirt. Never wear vertical stripes with a striped shirt!

Hehe, diddy, u are just like me. I wore the same thing to every interviews and got into all the schools that I interview at. LOL

Bottom line is: just find one dark suit that fits you most. Wear it with a shirt, and off you go.

Way to go Tink!

I'm going to retire that shirt & tie & put it in a glass frame. Maybe
we can sell our lucky interview clothes on ebay to the next cycle of superstitious applicants(j/k).

Next time I wear those clothes will be when I go to Vegas. If I get the same luck in Poker as I got in interviews, I may not have to join the military to pay off the loans:laugh:!

Black suit, blue shirt, nice matching tie... you cant go wrong. Blue shirts are the color of choice for professional/buisiness attire...

what about interview attire for females?

Pant suit or skirt suit? color same as the guys'?

Thanks
