a briefcase?

How much stuff do you need to carry that won't fit into your pockets? cellphone/key/wallet?

dunno if this is what the OP meant, but often people are leaving town the same afternoon/evening as their interviews, and they've already checked out of their hotels. schools always provide a space for these people to keep their stuff during the day.

i bought a leather portfolio to hold all the stuff they give you and to take notes in. i did see a few people who wore backpacks: i don't think it hurts your chances but MAN is it a bad look with a suit on.

go to Staples and get a nice leather portfolio

poor you 😀

try Office Depot

i'd say just leave most of your stuff except that portfolio in the room they provide. and if they don't provide one, make one..

wow. overuse of coupons? didn't realize staples was a cover for the third Reich..

Did someone say... coupons?

haha cole's been on the /b/ fake coupon threads. i had a ton of them...never had the balls to use one...though i was tempted to get free orange juice. guess i'm just too kewl to break the law 😎

As for my taste in bags, go with a Jean Paul Gaultier overnight bag. Worked for Patrick Bateman

while we're on the topic, what do you guys take for the whole trip, I'm only doing carryon, since I don't trust the airlines, so what do you guys take, and for the guys: do you wear your suit there (on the flight?) so it doesn't get wrinkled and if not what method do you use to prevent wrinkling?

I'm not a guy but I definitely don't wear anything on the plane that I am planning to wear in the interview... it will get that airplane smell... ew lol. They have hanging carry-on bags that are specifically for suits and I think there is somewhere in the plane where they will hang them up for you if you ask the flight attendant (at least on Delta flights they do, you could call the airline to double-check). The only problem then is I don't think you could fit all of your stuff in just that one carry-on bag (although maybe a guy could lol), but I check a bag every time anyways.

yeah I have a suit bag, but there is no way everything fit in that bag and when i stuff it its too big and won't be accepted as a carry on!

Well my only other comment is that you would have to check a bag. I'm not sure where you live and which airline you use most frequently, but Delta has a great deal on their American Express Gold Skymiles member card where you get a free checked bag every time you fly (that's why I have no prob checking a bag, otherwise paying around $50 a trip extra pisses me off lol). Plus you get the $95/yr fee waived the first year, and a bunch of bonus miles and stuff. It's something to look into if you use Delta often and aren't going to be able to fit everything in a carry-on. 🙂

With regards to them losing bags... I can only speak from personal experience, but they have never lost a bag of mine and I don't know anyone who's lost a bag through Delta in a very long time. I think their system is a lot more accurate now. I also make sure I am on the plane early enough to see them loading all the luggage so I can confirm that I see my bag 😀 Haha, call me paranoid, but I'd rather be 100% sure for these interviews.

For the interivews, most schools will give you a paper portfolio that includes the days agenda, information about the school etc. If you dont want to take the chance, you can buy a black leather portfolio from officemax etc for like 10 bucks.

As far as suits go, get yourself a travel bag. You can get a super cheap one thats basically a plastic bag or a fancier one that can carry a lot more stuff. Either way is ok. A good thing about the cheapo bag option is that they're really light and you can unfold them and just lay your suit in the over head compartment bins on top of other people's stuff. Or you can ask the air attendants if you can put it in the first class jacket/suit rack slot. I was pretty successful w/ that.

Do they actually work? I've also never had the guts to try it.

And for the pre-meds who don't know what /b/ is, you're lucky.
