What are some of the most shocking things that the admission counselors have done to throw you off during in an interview?

pelting me with questions before i really had time to answer each one... threw me off big time..

i felt like i was rushed with each answer and didn't completely answer any of his questions..

My interviewer showed up 15 min. late. His secretary had to page him 5 times. Basically, I got iced!

interviewer: "What was your concentration in your english degree"
me: creative writing
interviewer: Oh! creative writing. I know a fellow who is a pediatrician who just finished his masters of fine arts in his spare time. He's a good wrier
me: (thinking) oooooh he likes writers, score!
interviewer: A friend of mine studied creative writing in undergrad like you, too, we applied to med school together
me: how nice
interviewer: Yeah, he didn't get in.
Me: oh
interviewer: he spent too much time writing and not enough time focusing on his pre-med classes
me: well. I have a chemistry degree as well. I got all A's in my science classes .... *slumps in chair*
interviewer: Oh. thats nice. I see you're writing a book of short stories. That must be time consuming.
me: ... its... um.... a ..... short book....

buck up kiddo... you got a interview, that means the school is at least interested in you! Its good to see a fellow BA/BS dual major out there (I'm Literature/BioChem). Good luck with the process :luck:

ha, don't freak out. this is the kind of stuff you should be EXPECTING at interviews. a huge part of it is seeing how you respond to stress. considering that, i think it would be damn fun to be an interviewer and come up with cool ways to screw with people's heads, especially when they are really nervous = )

chill, if you're there, they are interested. i'm sure you did fine.

Honestly, all of the schools that I really want to go to have given pressure-free interviews that were conversational and friendly. It seems like schools that do pressure interviews have something to prove. So when some dude was overtly hostile and then hit me with "Don't you think X is a major reason you shouldn't get into medical school?" I SAID "No, because blah blah blah", but I THOUGHT "I'm going to ding your crappy school, sucka".
