My professor suggested that I put together a sort of "cheat sheet" for my interviews with some quick facts about the program I'm applying to.

I'm curious, has anyone else made one of these and if so, what sort of information did you put on it?

I'm applying to PsyD programs but I don't mind hearing from PhD students as well 🙂

I did something similar for PsyD programs. I just carried around a folder with the faculty bios printed from the website, some general info. from the school, the questions I planned to ask, etc.

Honestly, I didn't end up really using it, but at least it gave me a little piece of mind.

Much like the last poster, I made up a sheet with basic school facts and then a one paragraph blurb about all the profs in the clinical psychology program for each university I interviewed. And I did use it!! On one of my interviews one of my interviewers got sick at the last minute and I had to interview with someone else in the program. Having this sheet when I found out about the switch at least gave me a little bit of information about who I was interviewing with. I think it was worth it.

Similar to what is mentioned above, I created a cheat sheet based on the following outline:

School Viewpoint (areas of focus, general research, etc)
Advisors (not just the ones I was interested in, because as noted above, you never know what might happen...with their research areas of interest)
Information on Internships (helps to talk about where you want to go)

I also got a little anal with it and looked up several of the most recent articles produced by those I wanted to interview with...it made for great tie-ins with them while talking about what I wanted to study.

If anything, the cheat sheet gives you that little bit of confidence boost that could help you get a spot!

I just wrote some basic info about each professor and the research they did....really just one line each. I did end up using it for the school that I got accepted to and I think it did make an impression. Though I never had to refer to the actual sheet, the act of writing it all down cemented it in my memory.

In addition to the info that the other posters mentioned, I also wrote down specific questions I had for each school/interviewer. I definitely glanced at that little note card before each interview to refresh my memory at what I wanted to talk about/ask -- it at least helped reduce my nerves!

Thanks everyone! I wound up making one for my interview today and when I found out who exactly I was interviewing with (because I didn't put any professors on it, oy), I looked them up with my phone. Gotta love technology 🙂
