I'm wondering what everyones' opinion is for wearing colors on interview day. I've seen lots of posts on what to wear and how clean shaven you should be or what kind of haircut to have, but nothing about "colors".

What suggestions have you been given?

I say keep it conservative (black/navy blue suits). No use in attracting attention to yourself if it's making you look unprofessional. Just make sure whatever you wear is a great fit.

Most people wore black at the interviews I attended so far but I don't really like the color. I would say navy and charcoal gray are the most versatile colors to wear. Anything other than that is too unprofessional for a dental school interview.

It's a very hard balance to not bring attention to yourself--yet be memorable for the interviewers who interview hundreds of applicants. What are the thoughts to contrasting tie color? Patterns? Plain?

Would love the perspective and opinion from women as well.

I don't think these interviewers who see hundreds of suit wearers per cycle will remember if someone had a blue suit red tie versus blue suit purple tie. You won't stand out (color wise) unless you wear a hot pink suit, which would be slightly unprofessional. Stick to a professional and classy look. Navy suits look amazing and can be wear with a lot of tie colors (besides black). Don't wear anything neon or you look like a fool. Dress nice and let your interview stand out instead of your suit.

I think there's a substantial degree of truth to standing out in a professional way. Almost every male at an interview wears a black suit - if you wore a charcoal gray suit that stands out against the field, you are visually more likely to stand out at the end of an interview day. This stuff does matter a little bit.

I heavily disagree that looking like the next person as a robot is ideal, and I've always thought it was strange that every single person worse black suits with a conservative color. You aren't going to a funeral, you're having a professional interview. Don't wear pink or orange. It's perfectly acceptable to stand out with brown, navy, or sharp gray suits and a standout tie.

An adcom at my MWU interview said it's ridiculous about the things he reads on sdn about what people should actually wear to an interview.

Wear a suit and tie. The person interviewing you is going to evaluate you as soon as you are done, so it's irrelevant if you stand out. Relax!

man ? - navy, dark grey or skin color is what I have seen. Like you may have heard, your suit color choice has 0.000000001 % effect on anything....but if you go in like you just woke up, then you know what is coming.

if you really want to stand out, at one of my interviews in the past, a professor saw a student with skin color suit and kept saying " man that suit is great,I want that" and everyone was looking at that student...

I've seen ladies in pink and blue, guys in very old fashion bright suits - not a good impression. Stay within a neutral color scheme. Fit is the most important

We had a few people come in on Halloween who wore costumes. Not sure how that went over. Keep in mind that this is professional school, so they want to make sure you're representing yourself as such.
