Interview Date Conflicts
Started by ophthohopeful
sorry to hijack your thread, but i have a similar question for USC vs Vanderbilt? Hard to get much info on Vanderbilt, and hard to know much about USC and their split from the eye institute. any thoughts are mighty welcome.
I'd vote Vanderbilt. I have some friends who go there, and they love it. The USC split is really the major deciding factor through.
any thoughts on the original post. cornell vs henry ford vs. bu??? thanks!

I think I'd go BU, personally. I know that's not super helpful, but there's my vote.
I would definitely not want to be in Detroit right now. The quality of life in Detroit has spiraled down since they went bankrupt. Too much crime and no police help. Check out the reports on how long people are waiting to get police to even come by after crime is reported. Not the best place to live for 3 more years IMO.
The choice would come down between Cornell and BU. Cornell has only 3 spots. BU has 4. I suspect they both interview 60 to 80 applicants. Go where you think you have a better chance to match.

LSU-Ochsner vs Albert Einstein
I'm somewhat familiar with LSU but know nothing of AE. Any thoughts?
I think AE is the better program. LSU is a lot of time away from your home base, for months at a time. I'm open to it but not everyone might be. Pick one so I can get my invite to one or the other! 😛

I also have a similar question. Anyone have thoughts on USC vs Vanderbilt vs Minnesota vs Davis if I can only choose 2 to interview at? Thanks!
I would pick vanderbilt and Davis. Know few residents who graduated from vanderbilt and they all seem well trained. Davis is a solid program with many good teachers and seems like the residents are happy there. The future of USC seems very uncertain. Don't know anything about Minnesota except that it is cold.
UT Southwestern vs Boston U vs UC Davis? City and number of spots aside...
Would pick Davis and utsw over bu.
also another thread: Bascom Palmer vs. OHSU. I know that BPEI is ranked #1, but I wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts about the actual residency program and living in Portland vs. Miami.
Portland is a beautiful place to live in with beautiful sceneries. Better and easier to live in than Miami especially if you have a family
Miami is a big party city with lots of beaches. Traffic is horrible and the school is an a shady area. I am not sure about housing prices in Portland but I know it's expensive in Miami
Bpei has an excellent program of course. Residents work hard, close to 80 hours a week during year 1. They spend most of their time at the ER which can be a bad or a good thing. you will graduate with more than enough numbers
I don't know much about Casey but I heard they have excellent training as well with lots of exposure to facial trauma
@shemarty - UT Southwestern is an excellent school but I think UC Davis wins hands down. UCD wins anyday over any place in Texas.
@UCD wins anyday over any place in Texas.
No doubt UC Davis is an excellent program, but to say that "UCD wins any day over any place in Texas" is a bit excessive in my opinion. There is UT Southwestern, and there is also Baylor in Texas. 😉
I meant in terms of the environment. No place can match Sunny Cali weather and its liberal people, especially not Texas, just my opinion. Not saying everyone feels that way.
Afterall, we will be there for 3 years. Having a great school is wonderful but if we want a life outside the school environment, I don't think Texas will ever come close to Cali. ha ha.
