Interview Date

Just a quick discussion regarding selecting an interview date. Miami offered 3 interview sessions: on the 11th, 19th, & the 2nd next month. Would it be advantagous to pick the earlier interview dates? I've read that decisions can be made as as soon as a week or two afterwards, so i'm assuming that decisions are made on a rolling basis but I'm not too sure.

im having kinda similar issue. i got scheduled an interview on december 17, but i graduate on december 16, and it would be kinda hard to fly out the day of graduation and make the interview the next day... it is possible, i would just be rushing things. however, the next date they gave me to interview would be a month later on january 7. im scared if i postpone to january 7 it may hurt my chances... any suggestions?

A month is a long time...esp considering that many schools are interviewing a large number of applicants. I'd ask the department to see whether the decisions are made on a rolling basis. I'm still waiting for a reply.

If your programs are on rolling admissions (which it sounds like they are) then the school would give you a decision within a week or two after the interview. I have heard from all the schools i applied to it is always advantageous to take the first interview you are offered if possible because it does better your chances of getting accepted.
This is simply due to the fact at the beginning of the process they have more spots to fill... also many times they have not even looked through all of the applications they have received only the first half or so. The later you accept an interview the more applications they have looked at and the more spots they have already filled.

thanks for the reply.. in regards to ur post.. i go to UMiami for undergrad and have met with the lady in charge of admissions a few times. she never mentioned anything about Miami being rolling admissions. Also, being that the interview dates are so close, it doesnt seem like a set up for rolling admissions. If you can make the earlier interview date, there is no reason to not take it.. better to be safe than sorry. (also school is still in session then, so you can see how the campus atmosphere really is). Miami offers a great program and its an amazing place to go to college.. good luck!

Miamis PTCAS page says "yes" for rolling..so I would say you should take the earliest date you are offered, but since you asked the department, see what they say. If they happen to say its not rolling for some reason (maybe they just select applicants to interview on a rolling basis? who knows) then I would take a later date so you're fresh in their minds

Yes, you are right. The site does say rolling and i get the sense that UM wants to make their decision early. I'm now more inclined toward the 1st two dates. Let's see what the admission office says. Too bad the later date would give me more time to prepare and it's a lot more economical 🙂

Hey muscle. Mine was sent out on the 19th. I got a confirmation around 25th, then got the invite a couple of day later. I find a thread on last years interviews and they were all on Jan & Feb. Hope that helps.

WOW!!!!! That is fast! PTCAS processed your app in like 4 days and they mailed it out and they got it that quick?

Yea, it took a total span of ~ 10 days. I think they process their first batch around Nov & Dec so maybe I just happened to have made it to their unofficial deadline.

Oh n i meant that PTCAS processed n sent out my apps on 19th. There was actually a whole month of delay prior to that thanks to some mess-ups.

That's crazy fast. PTCAS sent mine out on 9/30/10 (it was processed 9/18) and I still haven't heard anything from Miami...

Did you check to see if they received all the required materials? It could be that they are spreading the interviews to multiple time segments

funny you said that, i just e-mailed them to make sure they received everything. hopefully i hear back soon.

That's good too hear at least. Even if you don't make it to the first session Miami should have another one around Feb if the interview process is consistent from last year. Try looking up "Miami Interview" n you can find info on last years interview dates.

I submitted my applications on 8/30 and they sent it out to all the schools on 9/14 but I haven't heard back from Miami either.... Oh well, I didn't think I would get in there anyway, but it would be nice to know if I get an interview or not.
