my school is holding an interview day for retail positions, and I have a few questions since I'm not sure I could make it to many interviews due to my current rotation:

1. when applying to Target, there's a special process where Target gives you about a week to apply. After that you will be requested for an on-campus interview. I missed this deadline and wasn't sure if I could still do this with an off campus interview.

2. I have not had much retail experience besides IPPE/rotations so I wasn't thinking about applying to CVS nor Rite Aid because I heard they were high volume stores and generally consider people who have worked for them, ...but is there still a chance to get a position with them as a pharmacist despite not having much retail experience?

3. So all the stores I may not be able to get an on-campus interview, I can just try for an on-campus interview right? Is there any disadvantage to this in terms of selection?

thanks

I don't know anything about target other than they are very picky .. whether they will let you do whatever special process they have probably comes down to whether they have openings and if they like you a lot.

Its worth interviewing with everyone. . More interviews can't hurt you, even if you have little experience.

At my school, the on campus job fair offered 2 types of positions. There were companies who basically recruited one person each graduating class (ie managed care, compounding pharmacy, specialty, small independent hospital etc) these jobs went to superstars who likely already had their pick). Then there were chains and retail, who were offering informational interviews and if you were good and or lucky, they have bottom of the barrel positions available whether it be metro area part time float or rural ft float.

I'd recommend networking to the max. I had no retail job experience but got several retail offers through 4th year rotations.

Nutshell.. your lack of experience isn't going to hurt you if you interview well and have other things to show for it.. but school career fair is NOT the place to find an abundance of great retail jobs. Go anyway and interview.. then it will be on file somewhere after you've made some contacts and hopefully you won't have to reinterview later after you've gotten some (better) informal offers.

Full time metro area positions are going out word of mouth only or to internal candidates at this point. Get yourself in a position where you can hear about and express interest in these and you're set.
