Following a thread in the pre-allo forum about interview dining experience, I thought it would be fun if us predents share their interview dining experience as well...

I'll start...

Midwestern
Food: Food was OK. There were different choices such as country fried steak, salad, burger etc. Pretty typical Cafeteria food. 6/10
Atmosphere: Ate in the school cafeteria along with interviewers...it was a good opportunity to suck up to them but nobody was fully relaxed cuz of that. 5/10
Overall impression: 5.5/10

Buffalo
Food: Choice of roast beef, vegetarian or turkey sandwhiches. The roast beef was a bit dry. 5/10
Atmosphere: Similar to Midwestern, but didnt eat in the cafeteria. Ate with other interviewers and dental students. A little more relaxing environment because the dental students were pretty cool. 7/10
Overall impression: 6/10

NYU
Food: Excellent food. Steak sandwhich with NY steak cooked the way you like it. Freshly carved roast beef available as well. 9/10
Atmosphere: Ate with fellow interviewees and dental students. No faculties. A pretty pleasant dining experience. 8/10
Overall impression: 8.5/10

LLU
They didnt serve lunch. 😡 But heard the cafeteria is extremely vegetarian friendly.

Louisville
Food: Choice of southwest chicken wrap and kim's sandwhich 🙂confused🙂. The sandwhiches were just OK, but their brownie is heavenly. 6.5/10
Atmosphere: Similar to NYU, ate with just dental students so it was pretty relaxing. But, since interviews come right after lunch, everyone was pretty nervous during lunch. 7.5/10
Overall impression: 7/10

From my interviews last cycle:
NYU-agreed the food was really good, and the lunch was super relaxed.
Maryland-gave you a brown bag type of lunch, it was ok. Nothing special. We ate with other dental students and interviewee's.
Case-got a ticket to eat in the cafeteria anything under like 10$. Nice to have the freedom of choice, we ate with two other dental students and 2 other interviewees.
USC-they had just your typical platter lunch, sandwiches and fruit and drinks. We ate in a classroom/lab which was kind of weird. There were a bunch of other dental students to talk to which was really nice.

anyone have anything to say about UoP's lunch...I am going there in January.

Buffalo--disappointed, I was looking forward to the pizza and wings that they were famous for serving but instead got deli sandwiches! There were good nonetheless, and it was pretty relaxed as we joked around with students and faculty.
Midwestern and Case--I was given a coupon for free lunch. Midwestern's cafeteria was small yet still had decent selection. I had pizza, didn't want to chance it with the questionable rice. Case's was big and I had the freshly made deli sandwich (I didn't feel like anything else).
Louisville--Sacks of premade sandwiches I had a chicken salad one it was good and so was the company.
Colorado--breakfast finger foods. We weren't there long enough for lunch.
UNLV--Deli sandwiches with fixin's. You sit in the room and talk with students. Laid back.
Indiana and ASDOH didn't offer lunch, but to be fair ASDOH did offer cookies and bottled water.
The best (lunch) time I had (factoring atmosphere and quality of food) was at at Louisville.

Baylor - gave us a $10 gift certificate to the hospital cafeteria. The cafeteria was very impressive with a really wide selection.

UT-Memphis - had a buffet set up with chicken breast, salad, macaroni? Cafeteria style, mediocre. Chicken breast was dry.

UMKC - wraps, chips, and fruit cups from Jason's deli. yumm

Stony Brook had good sammages, gourmet stuff. Buffalo had some pretty good wings (had to go out with a friend to get the real deal though afterwards). NYU, by far the best. I can still taste that cheeseburger... maybe the best cheeseburger I've ever had. You can get WHATEVER YOU WANT at NYU, it's sick. You can get $35 worth of lunch if you want, all comped.

Everywhere else was pretty standard. NOVA had cookies in the interview room, but I didn't think it was appropriate to actually eat one. They looked pretty damn good though.

Nova - Kinda lame deli sandwiches. Some brownies, cookies, fruit, and drinks.

NYU - Great selection of food. Very new and nice cafeteria with made to order food. They have no limits on the food you can get so pile it high and take some snacks for the road.

Case - Fancy new caf with wide choices of made to order food. They only give you 4$. Not much for a real meal. Just add a little of your own money and you can eat pretty good.

UCSF - A selection of bag lunches with your choice of sandwiches. Come with chips, fruit, cookie and a choice of drink. not terrible

UNLV - Pretty much the same as Nova

Upcomming UCLA - Lunch will not be provided.........

I ate the best interview lunch at NYU!👍

NYU's interview lunch was very good indeed!

Best interview lunch was at Univ Nebraska. They take you to a sweet dine-in pizza place across the street from the school. And it's not like Little Ceasars, Dominos, or Pizza Hut. It's an authentic pizza joint (OK it is Neb though). They also give you a free electric toothbrush. What a deal! Our secondary fees in good use at last.

Nova - fancy sandwiches. I actually had the best tasting portabella mushroom sandwich there. I had water.

Temple - food voucher for $6.50 or something along that line. I got a salad and piled on too much lettuce or something and it came up to a little above that but she let me slide. Also bought a water.

Columbia - breakfast: muffins and coffe. There is a starbucks on the corner from the subway though. lunch: I had a drrrry chicken sandwich. I thought I was going to throw up trying to swallow it. It was awful. So I squeezed some mayo straight into my mouth and that helped. 😀 jk. It was pretty bad though. I also had water.

USC - had macaroni salad and wrap.

UOP - limitless food voucher! I got chicken salad with avocado and lettuce on a roll. Martinelli's apple juice (delicious) and Vitamin water. The sandwich was too big for my mouth so I just ate the chicken salad and avocado with a fork. They had hot food, all sorts of sandwiches, and giant chocolate chip cookies. But you have 30 minutes to eat and talk to the 2nd year students so I'd advise something you can eat and talk.

OSU-breakfast and lunch was AWESOME

Breakfast was all you can eat fruit and all sorts of good stuff

Lunch was a gourmet all you can eat buffet!

I wish somebody would serve mexican food for lunch

UNC : They had a Continental Breakfast all interview long.
UCONN: Pretty good food! You get a voucher that can pretty much pay for anything in the Hospital's food court.
Maryland: Okay like everyone has said.

man the brunch at Pitt was AMAZING! all kinds of fruit, platters of donuts, french toast, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, juice....it was good. next was the lunch at unlv.
ukentucky was cheap pizza. 🙄

Iowa no veggie option 👎thumbdown👎

MUSC: Chick-fila sandwiches with a piece of chocholate cake for desert. Dining with faculty and dental students. Q/A session is held at the end of lunch, and at this time the faculty leaves.
overall: 7.5/10

Ditto!
USC They gave us pizza with packaged snack foods and canned sodas. It was alright (6/10)

UCSF They served us Lunch AND Breakfast 😀. Typical boxed lunch with sandwich and stuff. Breakfast was a lot of fruit and juice/coffee/tea/hot chocolate with a couple bagels/pastries

UCLA Boxed lunch with sandwich choice, just like UCSF (although I heard that Other interviews didn't offer lunch)

NYU's interview lunch was very good indeed!

i worked at NYUCD over the summer and got breakfast a few times there as well. you can get omelettes if i recall. i got a croissant with egg and ham. very good.

good, quality tasty food, with a lot of variety in general.

All I got at Indiana was a sip from the drinking fountian. It was marginal.

USC- pizza (actually decent) and packaged rice crispy treats; we ate with students.

Temple- they gave us a coupon to the cafeteria which basically offered only pizza, sandwich, or salad; we ate with students.

I like the hot pastrami sandwich or the tuna salad sandwich. The hot lunches they serve change and rotate through about 10 different things on different days. It's hit or miss as to whether it will be good or not (lasagna is awesome...and curry chicken ain't bad)...just cruise up to the front of the line, look at what they are serving for hot lunches, and then either get in line for the sandwiches, grab a premade salad, get in line for the hot lunches, or grab a bunch of pizzas and snacks.

oh...and if you get a sandwich...never have them toast the dutch crunch bread...it will cut your palate as you eat it.

agreed...pittsburgh's brunch was hands down the winner in terms of food selection and atmosphere 👍

Also, use your magic lunch card to grab an armful of ice cream sandwiches and deliver them to the simlab 😀

i had the sour dough bread when i was there....was my first time eating it....sandwich was pretty good and huge... but i felt like i was losing a battle trying to lay my chompers on it while also talking to students and trying to be lady-like...needless to say, the sandwich won and i could only fester up about 3 bites....the brownies were good though.....

StonyBrook takes your "order" on a paper as soon as you get in, and they deliver it to you. It's some sort of sandwich or wrap, with soda and chips.

Buffalo DOES give the pizza and chicken wings! I had it and it was wonderful!

UMDNJ has sandwiches too...chicken and shrimp and stuff. The dessert thing they have is really good...it's like lemon cheesecake or something

Temple- $6.50 food voucher for the cafeteria that they share with the other Temple students. I didn't go over my voucher and I had a Mushroom and Swiss Cheese Burger and a bottle of water.

Buffalo- We had lunch at the presentation room (where they show you powerpoints, etc.). It was after the interviews and we had all of the interviewers as well as a couple of dental students there. The food included an assortment of sandwiches, salads, tons of drinks (they even had tea in bottles), and lots of fruits.

Pittsburgh- The brunch was at a special place somewhere in the same building that houses their basketball court. It was a brunch that was set up in nice catering trays. Wine glasses were used as water goblets. Eggs, hashbrown, bacon, donuts, etc. Juice was also available in individual bottles which I annoyingly poured on my suit (fear not SDNers, I was wearing black).

Minnesota- Muffins and candy were in the interviewee area along with coffee (from Peets? Maybe Starbucks?) They also had water in pitchers with tons of ice. Then for lunch, they took us to the alumni house and gave us a voucher for food. But you can go over your $12.00 limit and they just ask you for the receipt during lunch. We had lunch with the Admissions Director, Nicki, and at some point we received a presentation for Financial Aid from the FinAid director. The food was great and there was a bar across the lunch place but I felt like it would have been inappropriate to buy a cocktail... so I pretty much remained sober.

ASDOH- Muffins in the interviewee area along with juice and water bottles.

By the way, now I am REALLY looking forward to my NYU interview.

I had the panini with grilled veggies at NYU --- YUUMMMMM 👍

Lunch was very laid back, in the cafe with students - nice amosphere. Also there's no vouchers, etc. involved, so grab a drink for the road.

how am I supposed to afford to go to all these different schools for interviews? ahhh.

NYU has the best lunch.
UNC does not serve lunch, only drinks and fruits...so you better eat breakfast!
