Interview Feedback from Interviewer?

Has anyone's interviewer "hinted" that you're basically in or given you a very positive comment after the interview? Anyone get waitlisted/rejected after getting a very good feedback?

On a personal note... I was so worried i did horribly at my interview that when i asked my interviewer afterwards how i did, he said, " you did fine. you'll hear back from us in December". I guess that's as neutral an answer anyone can get eh??? Ahhhh! It's killing me! 1.5 months to go!

I actually had this situation at both Midwestern and NYU during my interviews. At NYU, I arrived early as many threads and feedback indicate is a good thing to do. I was the first applicant this particular doctor interviewed this cycle, and he told me straight up that he was impressed and was writing a good review, but that now it was up to the admissions committee to make a decision based on that review. At MWU, my interviewers told me that I was giving impressive answers and was doing extremely well. They also told me that I "shouldn't worry about getting into Dental school this cycle".

So how do I interpret this? It sounds wonderful, but until I get a letter in the mail or a phone call, anything can happen. I was on the first interview day in both of these cases, so many other very well qualified individuals have followed me since these comments were made.

yea it says to be always kind and give reassuring words to interviewees no matter how crappy they do.

yeah..I had some good comments too, but I don't wanna believe them until I have some kind of hard core evidence in my hands saying "welcome to our school!!!"

To get the first interview on the interview day, what time did you get to NYU?

Some of my interviewers said "Nervousness is essential & natural!"

If u make a mistake, ur application is highly likely to be jeopardized.

If ur interviewer makes a mistake, he/she can always hide it somehow. 😉

What are possible mistakes that a person could make in an interview???
I think one mistake I did was not asking any questions when he asked me if I had any questions for him...
What else can jeopardize one's chances???

Maybe, failed to asnwer to any questions!

YOUR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE---> "OMFS....."

then what if interviewer told u that u'd mentioned u want to specialize in Orthodontics on ur application?

The reason I worry is because I was asked the usual: "why not medicine" and I thought to myself...(oh please don't think I'm a med reject I swear I'm not!!!) ...

My parents are both in healthcare so I have shadowed doctors before and I explained that after seeing their lifestyle I didn't like it as much as when I shadowed dentists...and I went on to say other things...but I don't know if it was really convincing...I couldn't even concentrate on my answer becasue the whole time I was worried he is thinking I'm a med reject 🙁

I also got positive remarks from my interviewer at NYU...he told me I remind him of him a little bit when he applied and that I was the exact reason on why dental schools conduct interviews because on paper I'm like most competitive applicants but my story behind my application is the pushing edge. He told me he was very impressed and would write a strong recommendation, but that ultimately it is up to the admissions committee so no guarantees. He then told me to wait a few days after Dec 1st to hear from NYU, and if I don't within a week then to call the school.

I later asked a few others who interviewed with my guy about their interview and he didn't explicitly endorse any of them so I don't think it was just "etiquette" that caused him to do it.

So point of the story is it may be nice etiquette to leave you on a good note, but you have to judge it. You can seriously tell when someone is really impressed with you and is genuinely telling the truth about endorsing you positively.

Did they know u had applied to med schools?

I think it will be fine, cuz u had explained to them. (Not cleary? but u somehow explained to them!!)

Most importantly, be prepared for that question for the next interview!!

I think interview process is just a part of our application.

However, it's really a part of our application.

Depending on schools, they will weigh the importance of interview differently. As I heard from others, some schools even score it. (Or maybe all schools!)

One thing I am sure is...

Excellent & impressive Interview is not equal to
Excellent academic acheivements

Don't u feel hearing the latter one is better?


But, I am sure that if u hear ur interview was excellent, they will not reject u because of interview. Still, high interview performance may not be enough!

At my NYU interview I was very honest and blunt and didn't hedge any answers. The interviewer asked a lot about my family and I talked about the good and the bad. He said that all of these life experiences made me a stronger dental school candidate (which I hope is an endorsement?)

I really hope I didn't raise any red flags by being so honest lol, but the interviewer seemed to have appreciated it. I really hope I get in; NYU is an amazing school, don't believe the rumors or the haters.

just type NYU in search forums...


U may able to find any rumors...

I don't remember those rumors now..

but one example is........

Significant number of NYU d-students have been kicked out!

--> Maybe difficult and harsh academic environment?

Poor clinical training as there are many many people
--> D-students really have trouble in having their chairs?

SOMETHING LIKE THAT!

Anyway, I do agree that NYUCD is amazing!

LOL, I NEVER in my life applied to med school or wrote the mcats or even thought about it!!
I've only had one interview so far...and I don't know if I will get any ohter ones...I really hope it works out at NY...
I loved it and I would love to move there today before tomorrow!!! <3

U are worrying about it because u think u didn't cleary explain the reason.

Hey~~~~YO~~~~~ Don't worry unless u have "MEDICAL SCHOOL REJECTION" record on ur AADSAS application.

Even though u have that record, u will be fine unless u applied to Med school at the same time and they know it. Based on one of few previous threads, I remember ADCOM's are sharing that kind of info. Maybe, it's just another rumor.

Hm..let me think!

I think a few of guys indeed apply to both med and dent, and may think dent is their back-up plan. I have never imagined that's possible.
