Interview for alternative list

Indiana U just sent me an email asking me if I would like to attend the interviews for the alternate list.

If I were placed on it and someone happened to reject their admissions then I would be considered.

Do other schools do this? It just seems odd that a school would expect you to pay to fly out there and stay in a hotel just to be on an alternate list.

What are your thoughts?

I think there was another thread that mentioned something similar for Pacific. I suppose if a student only applied to that one school or to a couple of schools then it may be worth trying to get in by means of the alternate list.
