hey guys,

I am set to have an interview at a local hospital next Tuesday. If accepted, I will be volunteering for the hospital and doing some physician shadowing. Anyone have any related experience? I'm not really sure what to expect in the interview. Any help would be great

Is it a formal program? Can you provide some more information on it? What is the time commitment, etc.

Is it a formal program?

It seems pretty formal. I applied on line about a month ago and then got called in for an orientation (at this point I assumed I was in), however they told me that they would check my references and application and let me know if anything was available. They told me it would take about 2 weeks. After waiting 3 weeks, I called them and asked what was going on and they said they hadn't checked my references yet. I told them I provided written LORs for the position and that I was eager to get moving with this endeavor. Now I have the interview on Tuesday.

For the interview, relax and be confident. Don't answer questions in a brash manner and make sure that you have some questions of your own at the end when the interviewer says "Do you have any more questions?"

Okay because their interview process was pretty formal. I wore a skirt suit, and they asked a lot of hypothetical scenario questions and wanted me to explain what leadership qualities I have as well as how dedicated I am.

I'm guessing yours will be similar, so be prepared to answer hypothetical scenarios such as "a patient does this, this, and this (all something bad) what would you do?" or "a hospital employee asks you to do ________ which you are not trained to do. You politely say no and they pressure you. How do you respond?" etc.

If its anything like my hospital interviews for volunteering/shadowing then its relatively casual. Mine they just asked me things like why I am interested in getting involved in their program, what I hope to learn/gain, what areas I think I may be most interested in, things like that

It wasn't bad at all, granted this was a three years ago. Just be confident and you'll be fine. Good luck

I kind of think this is overblown...it's better to say you don't have any questions and just be enthusiastic about getting to work than wasting time with contrived questions if you actually don't have any, at least IMO.

This was my experience, as well.
