Interview from my dream school, but on a day when I already have another interview scheduled

What should I do?

This would be my first interview at a top 20 school ... and its in my hometown so I really want to go there. They only offered me one date (this week) and only informed me about it yesterday. Its also a 2hr flight away.

I have interviews Wed-Thur-Fri in NYC and I would have to reschedule the one on Fri (a very good community hospital program). I contacted the reach school but haven't heard back from them yet.

Any advice?

I'm not sure how this is even a question. If it's really your dream program, go for it.

Go. Make up some decent vague excuse that isn't a total lie you can be caught in for the last minute reschedule at the community program to save the bridge if you can.

The community place is probably more of a safety program and the dream a reach for you I'm guessing, so I would merely pause to ask yourself if you have enough likeable safety interviews at this point before swapping otherwise it's a no brainer. As risk averse as I am even I would say in this case chase your dreams try to move the other interview. Good luck.

no...don't make up something...call the community program's PC and tell them the truth...that you have been offered an interview at a program in your hometown and is there any way she can help you be able to interview at both places...once you have an interview at a place its easier (not easy) to reschedule.

however do note that the very short notice is probably because of a cancellation and you came off of a wait list...and its a reach school...as crayola said, make sure you have enough safe places to interview.

If the community program isn't in your top 4 then just cancel it. You can also just ask them to reschedule. Definitely don't try to haggle with the good program. But as others have said you're probably not going to rank very highly on their list but still definitely worth going to the interview.
