Would appreciate someone's feedback or thoughts on this. I will be 5th author for my work, and the project is on basal cell carcinoma. The PI is a dermatologist, and my friend is the one who got me on this project with her. I am really not interested in derm, but I want some research experience. Is it worth joining the project?

MS1 at a low tier MD heavily interested in IM!

Believe me, if you get a bunch of Honors and a killer Step 2 score, you'll develop a spontaneous interest in Derm if you know what's good for you.

haha thanks!

If you were to go back would you have done derm? and why? is there more service potential - like docs without borders - in derm compared to primary care? Even if I had the scores for it, I still think I would either do FM or IM.

Sure; IM and FM may be looked down upon and they may not make as much as derm per hour or have its lifestyle, but I'm ok with that.

Yes. I gave it a shot in med school and was bored by it. The reasons relate directly to what you wrote in your last sentence. I'm in a specialty that teaches one the value of enjoyment of life while you have it, and Derm offers a great way to do good work while allowing for a much freer life.

It's not the only field like this, but it ranks almost highest among them in these respects.

If I were to go back I would not do derm.

That is because I was a *#&@ medical student and could not do derm.
