I have a question for all of you SDNers. I was recently told by the adcom of one school that although I had good ECs, LORs, and interview scores, my MCAT+GPA was not good enough to get in this year. But my question to you guys is why would they offer an interview then???? 😕
All your comments are really appreciated! THANKS!

you need to ask them that, but various possibilities include:

1. you were good enough for an average year so they gave you an interview but this year their applicants were better so you didn't make the final cut

2. the person is just rude

3. the person just doesn't know what they are talking about

4. maybe your interview score was only 'good' and it needed to be 'excellent'

?sorry, not to be able to help more, but I would go back to whoever gave you the advice to retake and ask them about this.

TX is different from other states. Schools like UTH and San An interview half their applicant pool, 1000-1200 students! So it possible to get an interview at a school like that and not get accepted, on the basis of GPA and MCAT.

Would you mind telling where did you interviewed and your stats?? That may help us assess your situation.🙂

My question is directed at Baylor because my GPA was a 3.65 and MCAT was 29. And I am not a URM. I orginally thought I wasn't going to receive an interview from them b/c their GPA and MCAT are way higher than my stats. But when I got an interview, I thought they were thinking that my ECs and LOR were good enough to compensate. But I guess not. I just don't understand why they would interview someone whose numbers they weren't going to accept anyways??? CONFUSING! 😕

my numbers aren't the hottest, so i figure i'm going to have to have really good interviews at the schools with high averages. just because you slipped by and got the interview, that doesn't mean they will no longer look at your numbers. i'm sure it really depends on the school, but schools will still look at your numbers and if you didn't absolutely shine in the interview, they might rather give your spot to someone who did and had better stats or someone who did ok and had better stats. they probably did think your ec's and lor's were good enough to compensate, but maybe your interview wasn't great or maybe there were just too many people with excellent numbers, ec's, etc...

Wow! That is messed up, I never knew your stats were that high. Baylor interviews a large portion of their in-state applicant pool also BUT... look at their website, only a handful of their matriculants had sub 30 mcats. It is unfair for them to have wasted your time like that.

Maybe I should be thankful they've ignored me (4.0/27S), they must have screened me out on MCAT alone. I think they interviewed you to see if there was something spectacular that overshadowed your MCAT score (not that it's a bad score, but you know how these schools are).

wait, did you get a post interview rejection??? are those going out now?? when did you interview???

Did your interviewer tell you this? I also interviewed at Baylor and thought I at least had a chance because I got an interview. Is there anyone at Baylor that I can call to ask about this?

Didn't mean to scare people, but I haven't gotten a rejection letter. So they aren't sending them out.
Oh! And let me clarify by saying that I spoke to someone who used to sit on the adcom to get an unbaised opinion. Sorry if I didn't clarify it earlier. I tried calling BCM but they basically only told me that I needed to wait.
SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION EVERYONE!
