Interview GPA?!?!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They’re prob not going to ask about that. Seems to be a boring topic they already know the answer to. You have great grades.

When you submit your grades AAMC and you’ve not been graded. Don’t include it. Each school has a method of updating important events such as grades or mcat retake or volunteering. IMO it’s an optional update.

Disclaimer, this is my personal opinion and not based on an intimate knowledge of the rules.

Best of luck

Does this update occur before, during, or after interviews?
This may be school specific, but almost all of them will require a terminal transcript. Although, this raises another interesting question: will a school rescind an acceptance due to poor senior year performance? If someone goes from say all As to all Bs their senior year, will they be rejected after acceptance? Or if someone has one bad quarter or one failing class or something?

I'm not too worried about having an acceptance rescended, my grades will most likely be A, B+, B+, which I don't think is bad enough to have then rescend an acceptance, but clearly doesn't look good pre or during interviews when I'm not sending that quarters grades

I will be applying to medical school with a 4.0 GPA, however, I will not be including my spring grades since I am on the quarter system. Unfortunately, I'm not doing so hot this qharter. I most likely will end up with a 3.5 this quarter. My question is, do adcoms usually ask about your GPA spring quarter if it wasn't included in the application during the interview? If so, do they want a qualitative answer (I finished with good grades) or qualitative (I got a 3.5). If they do ask, how will this end up looking for me? The the only reason I think that they are likely to ask about my spring grades is because of having a perfect GPA.
I never do.

I never do.
For secondaries, is it usually a common question to ask about spring grades? I know there's usually a question that asks you to update the school on any relevant information, but I assumed that was more about extracurricular activities and not grades. If I choose to not include grades in this section, would that look suspicious?

My school's secondary doesn't ask for spring grades.

Funny thing... when we see an otherwise 4.0 student who has a single grade of less than A, we rejoice because we see that the person is not perfect. Perfectionists don't do well in medical school. Having those 2 B+s might actually make you a more attractive candidate. Even though it may seem like it delays your cycle, you might be wise to submit after spring grades are posted. As long as you submit by July 1 you won't be "late" and frankly, the cream rises to the top and with your GPA you are US AAA cream.

Ok, would it be a major red flag going from 4.0 throughout college to a 3.7 (A, A-, B+) senior year? Or Am I being neurotic

literally no one will care just dont fail classes. If they offer you the interview, they think you are good enough to attend. After that, it's more about everything other than numbers.

I just don't want to appear like I have ”senioritis”, or that I'm taking my last quarter less seriously. If i do end up submitting June 1st just to get verified, would it look like I'm hiding something if I don't wait to submit my spring quarter grades, especially when asked about it in secondaries or an interview? And if this is brought up on why my academic performance was less during my last quarter of college, would a valid reason be as simple as having many other obligations to do this quarter (EC, work, research, completing AMCAS app, etc)

Nobody is going to ask you for a grade update in an interview. You should apply early and submit your updated transcript when your final grades are available. Your cGPA will still probably be above average and a couple B's is not an application killer - I had at least one B every semester of college and still got into several schools. You're fine. Relax. This is not a big deal.
Since I'm in the quarter system, updated grades will be up around June 20, so I would have already sent my transcript to AMCAS at that time if I apply early. The way I understood it, you cannot make changes to AMCAS when you submit your app, so wouldn't I just sent the final updated transcript upon matriculation and no earlier?

What I am saying is you should submit your app after your grades are posted and the transcript including spring grades is shown. No one will care that you didn't earn straight As in your final quarter and they may even think more highly of you for having had a bit more challenge in that last quarter.

If you decide that applying early with a 4.0 is more important than applying later with all the facts on the table (and it is not a bad quarter by any definition) that's up to you but I'm suggesting going with the slightly later application. If you aren't verified until August, that's going to be fine.

Oh I see what you are saying now. Are you recommending for me to apply when my spring grades come out because it will look better for my application having a few grades that are not A, or is this more because it would look bad if I don't report those grades and have adcoms find out during interviews or from a secondary?

both. Better to get it out on the table than to leave them wondering what you have to hide (which is nothing, your slight decline in the last quarter is not a big deal).

I see, thanks for letting me know. But if I already sent my transcript and had it recieved, is there any way I could include my spring grades in mid June?

The dip has to be really bad.

Good. I have been 3.98 last 2 years, this quarter is looking like it may be a 3.7 type of quarter. Next year is just biotech, embryology, quant and physiology so I think I can manage to pick the 4.0 back up.
