We know there is a shortage of doctors say I get a hospitalist interview I got 4 lined up how does it work are my chances strong is the interview just a formality or no ?

Dude can someone answer correctly I'm a pgy3 im interviewing right now I got a med degree taking the boards in April.

As far as what I am hearing from my peers some hospitals are really trying to court them I'd assume it would be the opposite that's why I ask again if you get called to interview as a hospitalist what are your chances generally to get a contract / offer

It probably depends on how strong of a candidate you are and how well you interview, not to mention a myriad of other factors that will vary from person to person and hospital to hospital. Nobody will be able to answer this for you.

100% depends on what their supply is right now. If it's a malignant shop staffing 95% with locums you're probably guaranteed a job offer if you show up to the interview with a pulse.

If you're interviewing with an established group with low turnover then the interview is going to be make or break - my group won't hire anyone unless we ALL agree we could spend 5+ years working along side this person. It all comes down to personality for us.

Assuming you don't show up to your interviews with your underwear outside your pants then with 4 interviews I would expect 3+ contract offers.

Edit - boards in April? Are you FM?

Ya I'm FM applying to hospitalist I just like Inpatient better thanks for your response brother it was helpful. I interviewed around the same time for all my IV and now getting anxiety over potential offers, being FM many hospitals rejected me outright from applying so with the 4 I have it's do or die as I want to stay in local area.

Yeah and that's actually something I thought of after my edit. At my shop we only take IM hospitalists, but the other shop in town is happy to use FM hospitalists. If you got an interview it means they don't mind the FM designation - they wouldn't waste their time if they knew off the bat they couldn't hire you.

How long ago did you interview? In my experience for myself and my residents I usually see contracts get offered fairly quickly after the interview. If you want to PM me more specific details I can see if I can help. I do career counseling with our residents, so I'm by no means an expert but I've seen a fair amount of hiring.

Sorry, I didn't take my Mind Reading elective in med school seriously.

Just shut your mouth man and get lost

Pro-Tip for your next thread: just like a consult, provide all the relevant information up front. Posing as "Status: Pre-Health" with a hypothetical question about obtaining attending-level positions with no background information is tantamount to trolling.

Take it or leave it.
