Is was wondering what the general consensus was in regards to emailing residency coordinators about your interest in their programs PRIOR to getting an interview spot from them?

I'm getting a lot of interview rejections and am getting desperate.

So does it help to email them? Or would it backfire?

I honestly would go ahead and write to them. The way I see it, you have nothing to lose at this point. I was talking with some other people about this recently and we all pretty much agreed. I, myself, sent letters to a few programs I am really interested in but haven't heard anything from and a friend of mine wrote letters to programs in her home state since she had not heard from many of them yet and got an interview from one a few days later. I am not sure if the letter is what did it but who knows. I think it's worth a shot.

Im about to write a few of these. Who exactly do we address it to and anyone have a good idea of what to say?

Its really futile in my opinion. UNLESS your mentor, or one of the staff that worked with you is willing to send such email to PD, they will simply delete it. (Unless they are really really cool PDs)

but hey, you have nothing to lose, write it to the PD or PC, i dont think it would make much difference.
