Will any school send interview invites just by changing your status and not sending an email?
You'll get notfication, but sometimes you can find it online a days before you actually get word from the school. This happened to me at UIC.
I liked to check my status every so often, but it's not really necessary or something you need to do frequently.
Each year we see a post or two with, "OMG, I just checked my status page for the first time in ages and found I was offered an interview 3 weeks ago, and now the deadline to respond is past. What should I do?"
See Cats post...I think this is a legitimate worry

Worthy of starting two threads about it?
Will something prevent you from checking your status daily?.I think this is a legitimate worry

good idea!
-goes and bookmarks all his pages
I would check apps every week or so. It's not like it takes that long unless you're applying to a ton of schools. Just make it a routine... maybe every Sunday night you check all of your status pages to make sure you didn't miss anything.
Most (if not all) schools will send e-mails, but e-mails getting lost/sent to your spam folder seems to be a common occurrence.

UChicago is notorious for this, I feel. I think there was some discussion some time ago about EDU email addresses not receiving e-mails and updates. I just happened to log in and find an interview invite waiting for me.
I created a spreadsheet with all the websites, usernames, and passwords of the schools I applied to. For about 30 schools it takes me only a few minutes to check my statuses. (You probably spend more time reading SDN, which will direct you toward which statuses to check in the first place...)
