anyone else find themselves being really awkward when someone calls you for an interview invite? 😱

can't believe i just got flatly rejected by Temple Hospital, that was sad,I wish I knew why.........

Do you always get the rejection notifications? Have there been any cases where the programs don't call/email you at all?

No, you don't always get notifications. Eventually most of them do inform you, one way or another. IMO, it says a lot about the program if they can't even be bothered to let applicants know that they weren't selected.

It's still considered early to get invites for interviews, right? I'm just too impatient.. Oh Lord help me..

Yeah I'm still waiting to hear from a lot of places too! I suppose the bigger ones have a lot of applications to filter through

i haven't heard back from > 70% of the programs applied
why not focus on preparing for interviews instead of waiting for them

I agree with you 100%. Even if it's just something little about the app, at least it's something vs. "we received too many applicants" well duh, you know you would.

I have heard from West Virginia, Memorial Hermann, Intermountain Healthcare, Palmetto Health, and Greenville Health

agreed - waiting is brrrrrutal! hang in there. hopefully we all hear some good news soon 🙂

Are you applying to general PGY1 or a more specialized program at Memorial Hermann?

Eh, at this point I feel like no news is better than a rejection.

Dang, I haven't heard from Memorial Hermann yet and I sent mine in on Dec. 31st.

I have heard from the Cleveland Clinic though 🙂 , but no one else yet 🙁

Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.
Forget all the reasons why it won’t work and believe the one reason why it will.

did cleveland clinic offer you several different dates for interview?

I have a quick question that one of my friends brought up about "sending out invites" and the "weeding out" process. What percentage of applicants on average do they send out invites? was it easy to come by and so is less competitive? I know the interview is the determining factors, but I want to get an idea of the percentage?

Another question about case presentation (10min). Before I ask the residency director, I just want to know will the case presentation usually need primary literature, or was it just a normal, but formal PPt format presentation like during round?

Thanks!

I think it depends on the program and how popular they are, a program like UCSF may have 12 slots but only need to interview 2 or 3 people per slot so they only need about 40 interviews, whereas a mid tier program with 4 slots may need 6-8 interviews to fill each....So to think of % interviews I bet USCF and UK and such may have 150-200 applicants and give 40 slots so that is 20-25% get interviews...maybe hahah[/QUOTE]

Memorial hermann sent out Skype interviews last week, and they started sending in person interviews this week. Not sure if they made everyone Skype before the in person invites or just some people. I would think everyone? Intermountain sent rejectionsTuesday. If you haven't gotten one maybe you're still in the running.

has anyone heard from houston methodist or any of the texas VAs??

Ditto. Maybe its the lingo that my school uses, but is it the same as "presenting a SOAP note?"

In my case, they said that they are giving me a case and half an hour to come up with the presentation, so am I correct in saying that I'm working the patient up and presenting orally like I would to my preceptor on rotations?

They gave me one date and I didn't ask for any alternatives because I'm pretty lucky to get that one. I also applied to both their pharmacotherapy and their PGY-1 program so I figured that's a day both residency directors can interview me.

I have a friend interviewing at houston methodist today

At least two of my classmates got interview invites from Houston Methodist.

Also, I got a rejection from Texas Health Presbyterian so I'm assuming they will send out invites very soon if they have not sent them out yet.

Hello all,

I submitted my application on 12/22 (most of my deadlines were after the new year), and I have heard back from only 3 of the 9 that I sent applications to (a VA in Illinois, Kaiser Permanente Northwest, and Providence Health). One resulted in an on-site interview invitation, one resulted in a phone interview invitation, and the last was just a confirmation that my application had been received.

Of course, I am anxiously awaiting to hear back on all of the other sites... The obsession I have with my e-mail is entirely unhealthy!

Good luck all!

I applied to 6 programs, all on 12/20/2014. As of today, I have received 4 invitations for onsite interviews: Indianapolis VAMC, Madison VAMC, Charleston VAMC and Atlanta VAMC. Still waiting on an update from Baltimore VAMC and Johns Hopkins.

I have a feeling you like the VA 😉

I guess they don't send any invites in before noon. Slow day at my rotation and I have been staring at my email nonstop.

I LOVE the VA. All of my emails have been received well after business hours. And I got a phone call at 9PM EST.

Which VA in IL did you hear from?

Did you have to do phone interviews for any of them first?

I just received an email from a reach program before noon 🙂. I also received an email around 10:00 the other night EST. I guess its whenever they feel like getting to you.

I never had a program call me for an invitation, thank God. Dunno why, I'm just not fond of the idea of potentially answering the phone while I'm in the dressing room at Nordstrom, trying to speak over the music (true story, didn't happen with residency invites). Everything I need to know can be communicated easily and quickly via email. I guess they are trying to make it more personal, or sense if you're a nut job based on your phone etiquette?
