Interview Invites 2015!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
anyone else have an interview with "multiple mini interview" scenarios? I feel like I will either be really good or really bad at these. Also, Skype interviews are really awkward. Just saying.

Do you mean having the day broken up into several interviews, each with different people? And yes, Skype is terrifying. I can hardly handle talking to family and friends by Skype....something about the inability to make eye contact. I can't imagine doing an interview by Skype!

It was so awkward! I didn't know if I should look at the camera, so it looked like I was looking them in the eye, or look at the screen so I could actually see them. It must have gone fine, I got an onsite interview offer 2 days later, but it was strange! And yes, it's broken up into a bunch of different interviews but I guess it's all scenarios you have to quickly think through that don't really have a right answer so they can assess your thought processes and such. They do it for med school admissions apparently too.

Thought I would share my stats....
Applied to 10
confirmation of application received from 2
Haven't heard anything from 8!!

I've been told about them, it is like role playing. From what I heard you will walk in and have a couple of min to read a scenario and then you begin the "interview" and then you are done. Here is an example (Made up)

scenario: You are a resident in the CCU, pt is septic with culture pending, the medical team decides to start vanco, ceftriaxone, and meropenem to cover for all the infections. You do not believe that is the most optimized coverage. The person across from you is the medical resident for the team (interviewer). You will have 8 min to talk to him/her about the problem....

or something like that

Vidant sent out emails

Still waiting on Swedish American and UPMC Presbyterian

anyone heard from Rush, MUSC, UCSF, Duke, U of Colorado, UC Davis pharmacy practice/acute care PGY1?

someone said UC Davis has sent our some rejections, but I haven't got anything from them...haven't heard anything out of the other places tho...

Yep! *fingers crossed* It feels like no time at all has passed since applying for PGY1s, now we're back at it again. I'm excited (/nervous) though.

What's next for you?

Applying for job. 😢

To my fellow obsessive weekend email checkers...miracles do happen! Just got an interview invite at 10PM on a Saturday 🙂

Ditto, looks like some programs are sending invites over the weekend.
Our endless inbox refreshing is not in vain!

I've determined this is where all the overachievers hang out. 😛

What do you guys think about requesting to switch interview dates? As invites start coming, it is easier to group them geographically...

I'm in the same boat as you. I applied to 2 programs in the same city that is 13 hours away from home. Program 1 has sent an interview invitation and I need to send my date preferences, and I haven't heard back from Program 2. It seems like the programs are trying to schedule based on candidate preference, and it would inconvenience them to ask for a date change after they've weighed everyone's preferences and set dates.

If you plan to ask for a date change, I'd do something along the lines of, "I realize it must be challenging to coordinate everyone's schedules, and you've already confirmed interview dates. I wanted to check whether your schedule has any openings on (date), and if so, whether you would mind changing my interview date from ___ to ____, as I will be in (city) at that time. If your schedule is full on (date), please disregard the request. I am excited to be interviewing with you and will make arrangements to be there on the date I am currently scheduled. Wanted to check in case there is the opportunity to minimize costs. Thank you!"

I'm curious to hear other opinions....

Ditto. Maybe its the lingo that my school uses, but is it the same as "presenting a SOAP note?"

In my case, they said that they are giving me a case and half an hour to come up with the presentation, so am I correct in saying that I'm working the patient up and presenting orally like I would to my preceptor on rotations?
In your scenario, I believe it's the same as how you present for the preceptor since there's no way you can include primary literature with the time given.

is it appropriate to ask them what the format of the interview will be if they just confirmed the interview date and time with no additional details??

I would wait until close to the interview date to ask for details. It can take some sites a while to put together an itinerary

Most of sites said they will send a follow up emails in regards to the itinerary. Just wait till they finalize the schedule and they will send you the direction and the itinerary.

Question... So for case presentations, can we use the PowerPoint templates of the school that the program is from?

Someone asked about Duke earlier...they sent out invites almost two week ago.

I am still waiting to hear from 4 programs and it is killing me. I want to say no news is good news, but if rejection is silent, that is worse. At least put me out of my misery...

The only programs that matter right now are the ones that want you, not the one that don't (that includes ones that haven't reached out yet). It might be a better use of energy to focus on all the positives of the concrete invites as opposed to potential rejections ...

Also, I received PGY1 invites until the first week in February. It ain't over til it's over./2cents

That's the logical way to look at it. The anxious P4 way to look at it is to stress 24/7 and refresh email every 11 minutes.

Anyone heard back from Stanford or Brigham Women's Hospital?

Thanks for this. Sometimes we need a serious kick in the arse. I should be thankful I have any interviews! I've turned to tweaking my presentation for the 2 invites that I do have. No need to eff up the opportunities I do have, chasing the ones I don't.

Anyone heard anything from st Luke's in Kansas City, coxhealth and mercy hospital in Springfield MO?

I applied for UCSD Acute care and heard back from them last Friday.
Did you get an interview or a rejection? I haven't heard from them so I am just wondering if no news is bad news or what.

Anyone hear from Children's Hospital Colorado? Just wondering if no news is good news.
