Interview invites...help!

I'm sorry, but don't apply to schools if you don't plan on interviewing with them if they invite you. What's the point?

Hmm, I think NECO took a little while because they were slower to get things going initially, but they may now be comparable to the schools like SUNY and IU, who responded to my application within 1-2 weeks I think. (though if some of them say you're on the wait list or no decision list, I don't know that that'd help) And yes, many people apply to multiple schools and within those have a ranking, so it makes sense if, for instance, you applied to 5, had your top 3 picked out, and ideally wanted to wait until you heard back from all and then only pay the money to visit your top 3. Of course, you can also always schedule the interview at UMSL, see what you hear back from other schools, and then cancel the interview to UMSL if you get invites to more schools you'd rather go to. And yes, I did apply to a couple more schools for those very reasons outlined. Just hoping it'll all works out in the end. For now, I'll keep my fingers crossed & refresh my inbox hourly until something arrives. lol

Best of luck! By the way, NECO and SUNY sent me snail mail, and IU sent an e-mail.. maybe they're still doing it that way. And yeah, even though it may be really awkward to schedule an interview and then possibly cancel it later, it may be the best option for you if you don't hear much from other schools before your deadline.

It seems that the schools tend to take a little longer to send replies & invitations later in the cycle. When you factor in the holidays, its hard to give an accurate estimate of when you can realistically expect to hear from schools. Also, while some schools respond in the order they receive the applications, others respond based on how competitive the applicant is.
My suggestion is to suck it up and shell out the dough for the interview you have already-- even if it means you end up spending more money in the long run by interviewing on dates that don't work well together. At least have one acceptance (from a school that you would actually want to go to) before you start declining interviews or taking your time to respond to your invitation.
Believe me, the couple hundred bucks you're worried about saving right now won't mean anything later-- voluntarily missing out on interviews and potentially not being accepted anywhere will matter.
