Interview Invites

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also my rejections didn't say I wasn't eligible, they just said they had too many applicants to interview. I realize it's a rejection, but i would have preferred a "you're just not good enough"

Maybe I should have just done a standard pgy1...

Presbyterian Charlotte! They said they will contact for interviews in the week of Jan 14th!

Sorry, I didn't apply to Presby. I think they just recently had a deadline. If you haven't heard, just wait it out. It sucks, but you never know.

Thank you guys. Yes the process is very stressful now that I have no invites yet. What programs did you all apply to in NC and which ones are sending out invites/rejections now? PM me if you prefer that!

Agreed! This is very stressful! I received a rejection from UNC via email. They said they had over 200 applicants for 8 positions. I have not heard back from Duke. I received an interview from Wake Forest.

Wow! Congratulations for the invite! I just received a rejection from one of the CMCs and so I am now losing hopes on the others that I have applied too. I feel like I did not do a good job applying to a good mix of easy/hard-to-get-into programs!

I got that email this morning as well.

Rejected 5
Interview 5
Ranked 4
Matched!

This year for PGY2
Applied 5
Rejected 3
Unknown 2 (waiting for the rejections!)🙁

Don't know what happened.

I finally got my first two interview invites today as well!!
2 invites
9 unknowns

Has anyone heard from the programs in Philly or University of Maryland Medical Center?

I didn't hear back yet from University of Maryland Medical Center. I'm not sure if they started offering interviews yet.

Thank you! I was not geographically limited and applied to 12 programs in 5 different states. I have received 6 interviews all in different states. Purchasing flight and hotels is definitely breaking bank.

Haven't heard from University of maryland either, and neither have a couple people i know, so i wouldn't worry too much.

my stats so far:

applied:10, all over (not geographically limited, mainly to major academic centers with some smaller medical centers)

interview:4

rejected:2 (really hard to get into, so not unexpected)

waiting: 4... haven't heard anything at all 🙁

Thought I'd share my stats too.
Applied to 12 PGY-1 programs
4 interviews
1 rejection
Waiting to hear back from the rest.

The wait is killing me, I have this tight feeling in my chest that won't go away. I obsessively check my email and it's driving me crazy.

Did anyone hear back from Henry Ford or Tampa General?

Good luck everyone 🙂

Nothing here from Henry Ford yet. They were super friendly at midyear and their program sounded amazing though 👍

I applied to UofMD, but haven't heard anything. Got one rejection from JHU though.

I have to agree, the preceptors were amazing and the residents seemed really happy there.

I got an interview offer at U MD a few days ago and at JHU today. I'm sure they are still doing invites though so hang in there. Those programs have a lot of apps to go through.

That's good to hear! I also applied to major medical centers with some smaller medical centers as well. 👍

I now have 3 invites (2 in PA and 1 in MN), 1 rejection from a program in WI, 1 acknowledgment of receipt of application, and am still waiting to hear from 7 other programs. I can't wait until this is all over with!

Do you mind saying which programs in PA? Still waiting on Thomas Jefferson

One interview in CA, one in IL, and 5 rejections. Waiting on 5 more. :/

Nothing from TGH yet. It's been 2 weeks already but they probably get a ton of applications.

Just curious the friends of your that got rejected, did they have publishing?

Applied: 9
Interviews: 3 (my top picks!!!), 1 phone interview today
Rejections: 1
Waiting: 4

It's weird that my super competitive programs offered interviews and not my safety's.

Do not despair if you haven't heard yet!

I haven't heard anything from Hartford yet.

I got an invite from st Francis and Yale today

I received an email from Yale saying they were just starting their application review process yesterday and they should be getting back to me in the next couple of weeks and that their interviews will be in late February, but if you received an interview that means that was their nice way of saying I was wait-listed or something...

I received an invite shortly after this email. I also did a few of my rotations there so that could be why I got an invite sooner than others. So don't assume that you got waitlisted/rejected! Good luck!

One of my friends that got rejected from TGH had publishing

Anyone heard from VAs in FL like Miami, Gainesville, Lake City, or Pensacola? Or any hospitals in ATL or Jax,Fl?
I got rejected from Tampa VA.

I've heard from ATL but nothing from JAX (1 program said they would let me know 1/23)

a thought occurred to me today, how much is it costing you all to get to these interviews?

Have not heard anything from the GA and FL programs

This weekend I'm at 4 interviews, 1 rejection, and 6 ??? no word at all

A lot of residency as well as school is time management. You're always going to have presentations, projects, etc to do on top of work/school. You get a syllabus at the beginning of the semester, and therefore know when tests are--shouldn't have to request off for work; study early if need be. I worked 30 hours/week at 2 pharmacy jobs all through pharmacy school and maintained a 3.9 GPA. I definitely agree that my most valuable experiences were from working. I would think that working while in school would show residency programs that you can juggle a lot of things at once on your plate.
dafuq? I logged on just to say I'm not worthy 😛

I applied to 4 ATL programs and have heard from 2 and nothing from the other 2.

Applied: 6
Interviews: 4
Waiting: 2

Did anyone receive anything from VA in DC or anything from DC area?

I should clarify I got an interview from Henry Ford. I did not apply to TGH.

Neither of them had publications. Hope you hear back from them really soon! And with good news 😉.

Oh I already did, I was probably in the same "rejection" batch that your friends were in. I think my only weakness is no real publication other than an abstract. Which I think is the reason why I got rejected at TGH.

I think all of mine are in except for florida ones, for some reason florida program are taking more time that I thought they would. A lot of out of state programs are asking for like late to mid january invites, definitely not florida is shooting for.

As for the VAs, I think a lot of them send invites already or at least to my friend. I don't know personally since didn't apply to VA.

What is considered a good amount of publications to be competitive? And do the publications have to be "clinical"?

In the PhD world it's publish or perish with as many first authorships as possible. For residency, does first author matter that much or is it sufficient to just have a publication regardless of where you are in the list? Just wondering what gets you into the "interview" pile if you already have the >3.5 GPA, work experience, and leadership.

Curious how many of you with interviews had more than one publication....

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm really surprised I even got interviews because although I have research experience both in undergrad and pharmacy school, I have nothing to show for it in terms of publishing a paper. But I guess that explains why I got rejected from now 2 University of "X" programs.

If I do match, I'll make an Average Joe's and Jane's thread (haven't checked if there's already one) 🙂
"Do you like drugs" will be my theme => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OFOP_BP8vM

and it's late and I'm ranting and being slow as h*ll trying to prepare a presentation 🙁
