I've currently been asked to 5 interviews for med school 🙂 I applied to 15 schools, didn't send in secondaries to 5 schools (I came to my senses late in the game), and am waiting to hear from the last 5 schools. My top choice for school is COMP due to my husbands job. This is my second interview on Dec. 2nd. I'm worried I may have made a mistake by rescheduling my other three interviews to later dates. I originally set up interviews at Kansas, Kirksville, and W. Virginia for the second and third week of December. I then rescheduled those interviews for January with hopes I'll have an acceptance from Western (they'll have an answer for my by the 9th). Did I "*#%*-up" big time? I just didn't want to buy plane tickets and not be able to cancel them. What do you all think? Thank you 😍

I had an interview scheduled at one school and my first choice school called me with an interview offer on the same day. That left me with a bit of a dilemma, but rather than move the interview from the first school (that I had self-scheduled 3 weeks prior) I told the second school that I'd have to request another date for the interview. They were pretty understanding about it, ended up getting in to both and sent my seat deposit to my first choice school.

As long as you have a reasonable explanation lined up, I don't think it would be much of a problem.

What do you mean by this??

I think she means that she originally applied to 15 schools, and sent back secondaries to only 10, b/c she realized that it's really expensive to apply to that many schools and she probably has a decent enough application.

I don't think you messed up but remember there is a window of time where you can buy flights cheap and then they become really expensive. I think COMP has a pretty good TAT but this was back in Oct., so I don't know about recently. What I would do is, first figure out if it's even worth going to WVCOM and KCOM for you; I say this b/c you mentioned about staying in CA for your husband's job. What does he do? Will he find that sort of job available in these more rural areas? If not, then I wouldn't go to them, and only reschedule KCUMB in later Jan. But if you are worried about getting a seat then I would reschedule the other two in early Feb. I hope this helps. :luck:

Tough decision. My only comment is that KCOM was an awesome interview experience and extremely family friendly (I have a wife & kids). I've had several friends, married with children, attend there and they speak highly of their experiences in Kirksville. Flying into Kirksville can be a little more expensive, but flying into Kansas City is what my KCOM alumni friends recommended, then renting a Thrifty rental car (1/2 the price of other companies) to drive 3 hours to Kirksville. Then stay at the Budget Host Inn (only $40, and although it isn't the Hilton it is a nice little hotel only three minutes from KCOM). Just some thoughts to save a few dollars if you do decide to interview there.

Good luck. I hope you get your first choice and it makes life easier for you.

i dont think youre screwed but your interviews in jan. will be during the peak season and it may be a little harder to distinguish yourself from other applicants...then again, theres a lot of people that will be declining acceptances late dec., early jan. so it may just even out...i think youll be fine.

I did the same thing. If you interview well at COMP, it doesn't really matter, does it?

good luck.

Aloha Leilani,

I think you'll be fine. You must be an impressive applicant if you have five interviews lined up. Interviewing in December-January is OK, not early, but not too late, either. In fact I think interviewing in Dec/Jan is pretty normal for all the applicants who take the August MCAT. It wasn't a great idea to reschedule your interviews (a better idea would have been to wait until the week before your interviews to buy your plane tickets-and to buy them off cheaptickets.com, but its possible that in the end your decision may save you time and money (if you are accepted to COMP). Just be sure to let COMP know that they are your first choice.

Good luck :luck:

thanks munchkin, i appreciate the help by the way, great avatar, lol.

One more quiestion, is it true that you cannot rent a car unless you are 25 or older?

i got two letters from unecom on the same day - one said congratulations again for being accepted and the other one said that my secondary wasn't in! i think it was a computer glitch, but call to make sure!

Omigosh! I'm sure you're fine. Gives you kind of a twist, doesn't it?

I have heard this somewhere. I have never rented a car so I cant comment, but I wouldnt mind knowing either. This will give me something to do for my 25th birthday celebration!

Yeah, you can't rent until you are 25. Its even older in some states 🙂27 I think).

You can rent if you're under 25. Some rental companies won't rent to those under 21 or 18. But I have rented a car when I was under 25 (still under 25)

Now being under 25, some companies might charge you an extra surcharge for being under 25, since people under 25 cause lots of accidents (grrrr to fellow peers)

I was able to get the $30/day surcharge waived because I was a member of StudentAdvantage and they had a 10% on those over 25, and a surcharge waiver for those under 25

I think you can always find a company that will rent you a car, but you'll pay for it. I had to pay $20 extra/day on both my rental cars because I was under 25. However, I got my money's worth because I was able to sport an ultra cool dodge caravan. 😉

What do you think would be a reasonable explanation? I can't think of anything to say at the moment.

Thanks for the input. Plane tickets to West Virginia are so expensive. And the tuition for out of state students is out of this world. Hopefully re-scheduling won't come back to bite me in the ass. :luck:
