i just got done with my pt 2 today! coz of that couldnt even share invw experience, so here goes info for all:
UOC Invw:
Very friendly atmosphere, new equipment, nyc campus, Friendly staff n students,
BENCH TEST :
3 hrs... divide tym...i cannot stress more on it
1 crown prep 1 class 2 n wax exercise using greeen stik for carving a shape sort of pencil like, DONT BREAK IT
red rope wax to fill one alphabet
blue wax to fill in a shape.
INTERVIW;
mine was 4:1 some had 2:1 some had 3 :1 depends on which gropu u fall into...n general questions like Y dentistry, personal info
, my dental school etc NON STRESSFUL !!
NBDE 2
DAY 1:genearl questions more like pt management , NO VALUES NO BASIC SCIENCE STUFF ..totally unlike pt 1 ... REGARDIND QUESTIONS,I felt as if ptsl are asking me for advice n.. as regards the ANSWERS i could mostly narrow down to 2 , but dont know which were ryt
until the Result! 😀 but fairly confident it went better than pt 1!!!
DAY 2: UGHHHHHHHHH it made the rusted wheels in my head turn ....THAT HAS GOT TO HURT RYT? so today i ended up with a headache!
xrays n pics were fairly clear , sharp etc! no worries,
well honestly i dont know how i did today 50 /50

hey can you tell me that were there any question about histological features of oral pathology? i am taking this exam after a week. what about prostho? i am worried about that subject. Thanks in advance.

@ morphology and dental S ...NO HISTOPATH...Diagnose on basis of clinical pic...its more like the general dentist is faced with a pt n wat would be initial mangement, or best treatment or least desirable treatment! behavior mangment, insurance , AND ENDODONTIC DIAGNOSIS on basis of signs symptoms... in prostho dint ask any specific, just related to wat treatment will be given to pt ....VERY VERY general test..like the things we could tell in our sleep!! or diagnose over the phone...so focus on thse areas! the entire test I felt was beating about the bush on thes topics!
day 1 difficulty level ...NORMAL
day 2...go with gut feeling
honestly take rest and dont study anything on the last day...I had left books for like 3 months ,was just in touch with a few qs 10-20 from kaplan qbank evryday.. n in april left tht too coz was prep for INTERVIW on 7th..Upto 18th I basically was stressing out so couldnt study ...n after day 1 I felt i could do the same level whether I study or not! I felt MOSBY n DENTAL DEKS ARE tooooooooooo extensive! but u nevr know which topics they will chose for next exam soo have to do all!
DAY2 , go with what a general dentist will do in the case scenario given
BUT TAKE REST nyt b4 n be alert...the mistakes i made! dint sleep n wasnt much alert n cliked on wrong option althogh knew the anser , n im not sure in hw many q s i did that!

Mrs ali..pharma very common things used in dentistry, plus know the common diseases and drugs contraindications in those conditions...i dont hink there was a single LA q in my exam !! as the ADA distribution said!
n regarding surgery ...other than the options containing the word extraction idont think there was much focus in that too.

Regarding mine I dont know whethr Ill pass or not . if i dont ill get 9o days n know wat to expect 🙂

its a green stik that u have to carve into a pencil like shape but it is amenable to break, if it breaks u wont get another one! so dont break it!

Thanks again for the info. When we want make shapes, or alphabets, do we need to melt the wax and make it into different shapes or just stick them like a rope?

Aims...thank you very much...for info regarding part 2...i have xam in first week of june...my first session will be case studies..& then 8 hours xam..i am recently graduate from dental school & foreign dentist..I do not have much of clinical experience..would that affect???..& like in pharmacology section they are giving brand name of drug or generic name??..please advise...

@ diagno: dates r easily available at prometric website, just look for the dates that fall in the month u wish to take the exam in, even if the dates highlighted are single day only ,n u click it, it automatically chooses the very next day for NBDE2 ...hope that clears the confusion, my result isnt in till yet...still waiting!! usually they say 4 weeks! but im sure it comes a little sooner!

@ era : yes its a 2 day MEGA EVENT 😀

hey dentiline, evry ones exam is different,i was told by someone who took NBDE 2 in jan that implants was the focus, i dint feel implant was covered in my exam! so i cant guarantee whether ull get the numericals / values/ numbers etc or not.....our job is to study so give it your best!

do you do crown preparation and class 2 on simulated head (a plastic head like a real human lying with mouth open) or on a typhon ? So the key is not to hurt neighbour teeth and make a standard class 2 & crown prep, right ?
For wax practice, do you know the size of green wax? http://www.mdlwax.com/WAXES.html I see different sizes. So I think you just make one end like a pencil, you dont need to make the stick into a round shape, right ?
For the red rope to fill alphabet and blue wax to fill shape. Is it like you melt the wax and put it in a mold ?

Finally done with my part 2 as well!!!! big relief....and certainly a LOT easier than part 1 as u said in the beggining.
Found both day one and two went well, since i did tons of questions from qbank and released exams so i didnt feel it was any harder than the cases that were presented in these practice exams. Recommend it to anybody planning to take it, rather than studying ur ass off...practice, practice, practice (dust off ur brain cells since u should already know most of the material if u finished dental school)

Regarding the subjects, there was a looot of px management and endo.
My weakest subject since the beggining was pharma so i wasted a lot of time studying that, and the questions were very very easy on this...basic stuff and meds that u normally use in dental practice (analgesics, NSAIDS, anesthetics and antibiotics). However, exams r different for everyone so of course dont just study that! just posting my experience.

i practiced on typodont but in the school they hav manequin.
i found preps to be a lil difficult as compared to wax exercise....its different for everyone though
n its upto u how you want to manage the wax, both methods r ok
u just have to follow the shape given on the cardboard on which u have to tape/ stick the wax carving!

I used Kaplan Q-bank and released exams from ASDA

hi aims...first of all thanks for all the information u are providing for nbde 2....i am also planning to give part 2 in mid aug and i have just started with the preparation.....do u think i have sufficient time for preparing.....wat should be my strategy.....which areas shud i concentrate more......it wud be really helpful if u wud reply.....

@ ndc ...u have plenty of time but make sure give the max u can evryday n dont lax at all...focus on pt management n endo more ...see the dstribution in ada guide..
@diagno , i used kapln qbank n i felt its really worth it!

Hey Aims, I wanted to know where you practiced the crown preps and the like for the bench test. Is there a special program which helps with this stuff. I am a recent passout, and don't have much technical knowledge about preparations.
What i want to know is, basically, how one must prepare for the bench exams sitting in India. Appreciate your help!

@conditioned... i had evrything belonging to my cozn in the US so i practiced on typodont at home. I dont know about how to prepare in india ...contact your school may be they will help! best of luk!👍

Hey there...for all of you who sent private msgs after my post here, id rather u asked me here so everybody could benefit...so ill give a gral answer here, any more questions feel free to ask...HERE 🙂
I studied for about 3 months, first 2 i read from mosby and then i studied the decks. Yes i used the recent ones and nop i dunno how different they are oR it would make a difference. A friend did tell me that the difference was mostly that the 2011 ones stated treatments for different conditions and that the old ones didnt, but i dont really know. If it were me, id buy the new ones, or see if someone could lend them to u. Ur call.

The last months i only did questions (qbank and released exams) U can join Kaplan Q bank online, its about 100 bucks for a month n i think its totally worth it. Gives u a real grasp of the type of questions that are actually asked in the exam and the format, specially on the case-based which is what most ppl have trouble with. It even records your progress so u can see if ur improving or not, and each subject is recorded appart so u can see what needs more studying n etc etc. I think it is a MUST if u want to do good...
Also make sure to use mosby's exams. I thought these were a bit harder than the real exam, or maybe it just felt that way cus i solved them only after reading mosby, but anyway if u already have the book do them

If ur goal is to just pass, i think mosby, decks n released exams will do. If u want to get a good score, id advice u to add the kaplan qbank to ur prep
