Interview offer without a DAT score..

Its possible, but has anyone had it happen? I mean you would have to be quite an applicant I would think.

Possible but EXTREMELY unlikely. Even if you were interviewed, I would think it would be extremely unlikely you would be accepted to the school without the DAT score. If you wait until December as NJ requires, they will already be on about round 2-3 of the application cycle.

In other words, I think that would be a pretty dumb move and a great waste of money. Take it early and increase your odds of ending up with a CHOICE.

It is definitely possible, but you're going to need a high GPA from a top school. People on this site tend to overestimate the weight put on the DAT. It's one test on one day, and dental schools realize this. You're overall record is much more important.

Yeah, that table is not accurate. As said above, if you are a top candidate, they are going after you with or without DAT scores. You'll need the DAT score eventually, but not before they'll get you in the process.

The "No" in the ADEA 2008 Official Guide to DS was probably intended for applicants with mediocre gpas.

A classical example comes from Texas dental schools, which are listed as not considering applicants without DAT scores, yet there were 6 students (out of 271) that were enrolled without DAT scores. It is unlikely that TX schools were the only ones accepting students without DAT scores.

shadowing Dentist: 350 hours related to your research for finding tooth decay gen
IMO you don't need DAT

It's possible, but not for this candidate. More like...for the daughter of the dean. Admissions won't risk losing their job, so they accept her regardless of her scores.

Actually it is possible. The dentist I shadow who is fairly young (graduate of 1998) was invited for an interview w/o a DAT score. He was then called a few days after the interview and told to receive "X" on the DAT and would be guaranteed a spot. This was essentially a verbal acceptance.

It's certainly possible to be invited to interview without scores, but I'm almost positive you need them regardless for your application to be complete.

that is different situtation, you already had DAT score but you wanted to retake that. we are talking not having DAT at all. I am in your situation this year( only different is i have not got any interview offer sofar ) I have old DAT (20/19) from last year but I am retaking that and if I got interview it will be based on my old DAT.
