interview question (Dental ethics)

I have interview coming up and after reviewing the interview feedback one of the questions I have trouble with is "What do you think about dental ethics?" I have trouble grasping what this question is really asking. Is it asking me what kind of ethics would I have as a future dentist or Is it asking me what do I think dental ethical topics or Is it asking me what kind of ethical situations have I been exposed to while I was exposed to dentistry?
What do you guys think?

the answer to the question is whatever you want it to be. Its an open question for a reason. The interviewer wants to see how you interpret the question and your answer.

THis is an example of bad ethics, not in dentistry though. Boy, the OP was not asking you to answer it for him/her, but to say what your interpretation of the question is. Do us all a favor and take your bitter responses away with yourself, if you don't have anything to share.
To OP: I would say it is referring your honesty toward the job. For example, a month ago, a dentist fixed 6 dental caries in 45 minutes for one of my relatives, and charged her $145 each. We were wondering how he could have fixed 6 caries in 45 minutes and charge that much for the whole process. The questions seems to be asking for how honest, fair, and responsible you should be in your carrier, IMO. [There are dentists who would even fill teeth without any carries in order to get an extra buck. This is not only related to dentistry, but almost to any profession as long as greed exists in this world].

Sorry, if my question seemed like I was simply seeking for answers, I just thought the question was really broad and was just trying to narrow down what the question was asking and was looking for some help. Thank you harrygt needa20 I guess it could be an open question to look for my interpretation I didn't really think about that. Thank you!

Agree with Harry. Don't be rude to the OP- it's not like he's asking us to answer his "why dentistry" question. Honestly, I wouldn't really know what to do with this question either- I am interested to hear any feedback.

I was just kidding, But I'm glad I read this thread, because I would've been caught slack jawed myself if was asked this question without preparing for it (I also could become confrontational, as my 1st post indicates) . Ethics is a complex topic and alot of things can pop into your head when asked about it. You may end up just doing alot of hand waving and babbling when trying to answer it.

The angle about fair billing is a good approach to answering the question

I also think maybe if you say you will volunteer your skillset to serve underserved and poor communities in area.

YOu can also mention being shrewd when dolling out prescriptions as many people use their dentist just to get a painkiller fix

you're missing the entire purpose of my post. My post says that its an open to interpretation for a reason. Interpret question as you will and then answer it. DONE. FINISHED.

Its a freaking interview. BE YOURSELF!

The interview is for the school to get to know you as a PERSON, nut just as a ball of stats, class ranks, and activities. How do you think the school would look upon someone with all pre-prepared canned answers? LAME.

Just be yourself for better or worse, believe me, you'll find the school best for you.

I would think that a question about that could be answered with something about silver fillings. Are they ethical to use even though they contain mercury? Its known that they last longer than white fillings but at the same time, white fillings are getting better and better.

The answer they most likely want is the Dentist is in a position of trust. His patients trust him because he is a doctor, he needs to be ethical because he could be in a position to take advantage of people. It is very important to have ethics in positions of power.
