Hey guys,

I recently started working at 2 dental laboratories. In the first lab I make surgical guides for implant surgery and operate 3D software used for reconstructive surgery by OMS, orthodontists, periodontists, enododontists and GPs. In the second lab I recently got trained to do diagnostic wax-ups... So back to my question... Do you guys think it would be appropriate to bring like 2 cases to the interview to show them my hand skills???? I just dont want to lose the opportunity to show them that i am really capable of surviving the clinical part of dental school since this shows that i know dental anatomy. But on the other hand I am afraid they might think i am showing off ??? I dont even know if I am allowed to carry anything else other than papers inside the interview room.

What do you guys think???

I would appreciate any feedback!!!

Honestly I'm not too sure about this either. I personally think your experiences are impressive. Yeah it might look like you're trying hard to impress but I mean this is an opportunity you would not want to miss...I also have typodonts that I've set dentures and waxed. I also asked my career and health profession school advisors if I should bring my them. They just said "I've never heard of anybody doing that. Not necessarily bad...but just might seem weird because you can look like you're doing a 'show an tell.' But I can see how it can also make you look memorable."

In the end, I just ended up making sure to mention the experience I had and what I'm capable of to my interviewers and they seemed to be impressed. I know this isn't a clearcut answer of yes/no but this is my experience of a similar situation. Hope it helps.

^^Yea i am really confused.. I dont want to look desparate but at the same time i dont want to miss on the opportunity.. I guess the best thing to do is ask an admissions counselor??

Thanks for your feedback !!

Don't do it. I've built some intricate electrical devices and I genuinely thought about bringing a self assembled device to the interview...but then you remember that the interviewers may be old or VERY conservative and in that case such an action will backfire completely. I was just going to mention it in the interview if they ever brought it up.

In your case your dexterity stuff is even more impressive, but I'd still advise against bringing in samples of your master craftsmanship. Just explain it if the opportunity arises. Its the err on the safe side of caution mentality.
