Interview question: What are the current issues in dentistry?

Agreed. It's probably a good idea to brush up on this, although I was never asked this question on my interviews so far.

If asked this, I plan to work the "access to care" issue into the mix, and support it with the need to be careful moving forward in how we solve it. Dental therapists could be good if done right, but if done improperly could hurt the profession. Similarly, new dental schools like UNE are opening with the intention of providing dentists to underserved communities, but we don't want to pump out too many dentists, because too much of a good thing can hurt the profession as well.
