Interview question: why did you apply so late?

Do they ask you why you send in your secondaries late, if you didn't send them in until November? It's kind of a tough question to answer without rapping off excuses or sounding indecisive.

I don't think it would come up. "Late" is such a relative term. They set the deadline, and as long as you get it in by then they don't really have any reason to question your timing. I suppose if you went through some red tape calisthenics to submit your secondary sometime after the deadline, then you'd probably have to explain yourself thorougly (if they'd even let you do it at all).

I think it would only come up if, for example, you are a re-applicant and you choose to tell the interviewer that one reason you think your app failed last year was because it was late -- then he might follow up by asking you why
