This may be a silly question, but I was wondering if I am suppose to bring anything with me to my interview? Purse, paper, pen etc.? I am unsure 🙂 and I don't want to look silly.
Thanks!

Bring a professional folder a couple of bucks and a pen. That way you can write down info they tell you about financial aid, etc. and store any papers they might give you. I wouldn't bring a purse because you don't want to have to lug around anything extra while you're trying to look professional. And the only reason why I say money is because when I interviewed at ECU, they gave us a $5 voucher to use at their cafeteria. I barely got anything for lunch because I was afraid that I'd go over the $5 voucher and didn't have any money on me. Although I ended up using only $1.20 for a salad, I didn't want to ask the lady for my voucher back so that I could go get more food. 😉 Having a few bucks on me would've made me feel a lot less worried about going over the limit.

I brought a purse to carry all the papers/folders the schools give out. Definitely bring a pen and a few sheets of paper. As Spankete87 said, bring money for an emergency. Keep some gum in your purse just in case your interview is right after lunch. I also brought a little snack with me b/c i am always hungry and sometimes lunch is far, far away  Ohh... and bring an extra pair of stocking in case you snags yours.

rather than gum, i would suggest mints or listerine breath strips. this would be nice in case you have an afternoon interview and forget to spit out your gum.

Definitely bring a little cash (sometimes the meal card that the school gives you isn't enough). A pen is good, too, if you want to jot down the contact info for your tour guide or something.

I remember I brought a backpack with me during my last interview ... carrying a fluid mechanics book in it (because my midterm is the day after my interview) ... but it's not helpful during my interview though ... no need to calculate things about flows ... hahaha

These suggestions are good. A few other "extras" that I've found to be helpful, just for those random situations that can turn stressful, like a runny nose or a blister from your shoes:

Kleenex
Band-aid
A copy of my resume and the paper I published (JUST in case...never had to use them)

I carry a leather bag that looks professional. I think as long as it doesn't look ridiculous with your suit, a purse is fine.

i would suggest getting a portfolio or some sort of small briefcase and putting your stuff in that. don't bring a bookbag. that is the most unprofessional type of bag you could bring.

they will most likely give you a folder with some info on the school, and you might want somewhere to put it. other than that, the only other stuff you will have with you is whatever bring.

i always bring an extra copy of my primary and secondary application, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, chapstick, pens, paper, and a bottle of water. i use everything everytime.

hope that helps!

I usually carry a leather folder with copies of my PS and copies of the paper I published. Of course, bring ID and moneywith you at all times. Kleenex is definitely a good idea.

This one interviewee I was with carried a digital camera around, snapping pics of every little thing. It was annoying at the time, but seems to be a good idea now, just so everything stays fresh in your mind.

oh yeah, i always bring money, ID, and credit card, too. at northwestern you need your ID, so if you go there definitely make sure you have it.
