When they ask you at an interview "What could you contribute to X optometry school?", what kind of answer are they looking for? Do they just want you to exaplin how your experiences and studies could help contribute to the student body?

Thanks.

That was actually one of the written questions that was asked during my interview. How could you contribute, and the potential you could bring to the student body. I thought the 'potential' part was poorly worded. I mean, what could you say? "I could bring the POTENTIAL to be hard-working?!"

But in terms of what you could bring to the optometry school, stick to an answer that isn't a cookie cutter. Actually, this question is really meant as a character assessment to find out more about who YOU are
So who are you? Are you musical, artistic, creative? And if your interested in extra curricular activities, look into clubs that are involved with that school, and explain how you can be a beneficial asset via the skills that you have. If your a great oral/ public speaker, tell them they should have you because you'd make a great ambassador. etc. Don't get too caught up with explaining your experiences, and not really talking about who you are, because most likely someone else has probably had the same experience as you.

yeah, the intent of the question is to distinguish you from the rest of the pack. talk about your EC's and unique talents, etc... think about what makes you different from the rest of the applicants. good luck. 👍

I usually answer the question by saying that I'm the type of person that can connect with all sorts of people. I love diversity, so when I get into optometry school, I will use my strength to help bring people and my classmates together in different types of organizations. I also love community service and have a lot of experience with various service projects and organizations so I would help bring insights and ideas to (SVOSH, Amigos, etc). Remember to always tie in your personal strengths/experience to optometry. I think that's what they're looking for. Good luck! Don't worry, they just really want to get to know you!
