Once you have received an interview, does the school throw your stats through the window and decide if they are going to accept you solely off the interview?

Ooh, good question. I've been wondering this myself. I think they still consider your application as a whole after your interview. This is just my opinion though. Although, I think if you come off as a complete douche bag during your interview, they'll chuck your application out the window regardless of how qualified you are.

I would like to say that getting an interview means that your stats are now not the main issue... Stats are one of the bigger contributing factors in getting you an interview.

The thing is though.. Stats will come up during your interview... If you are not prepared to explain grade "X" or grade "Y", and make up for what you are lacking in (Stats), then the stats will definitely weigh you down, and it will not be favorable. If you can turn around unfavorable stats, and make something positive of it, then you can expect those stats to seem less problematic than they should be... I am just posting opinions here. I actually have no idea what the interviewers think or do at any point in time.

This is a good question. I remember reading on a few of the d-schools websites that only competitive applicants receive invites to interview. To be interviewed I believe they are generally interested in you (though some people have disagreed in the their interview feedbacks). I would think that someone with 25s on the DAT who posseses no interpersonal skills would be at a greater disadvantage than someone with average stats that totally nails the interview. Just my opinion that at the interview level of application everyone is on equal ground.

Actually I am hoping to hear from someone with a little more insight about this, since I have pretty average stats (actually below average), and I got an interview at UF (pretty tough school). I really think that I will do great at the interview, but I am scared that my stats will make it an uphill struggle for me.

What exactly are your stats and what exactly are you asking?

I really don't know but I would say that your stats still matter. After talking to a few people when I interviewed at Case they told me that they rank all the people they interview. Then based on these rankings they send out their first acceptance letters for Dec 1. So I am assuming that when they try to rank you they are going to use a few factors such as how they liked you in the interview, your gpa, your DAT, your extra currics and whatever else they use to rank you. Don't know but this is just the feel that I get from it.

I talked to a family friend who is on the admissions committee for university of western Ontario and he said that from the point of the interview all applicants are the same and from the point on it's just the interview. but i would love to know if that's the case for all schools or not especially since this the case for one Canadian school. I'm in the same situation as you because i have an interview at case western but I'm worried about my stats.

I think the ranking applicants based on everything makes sense. I believe there is no way adcom people will favor a nice person with 3.5GPA/19 DAT over others with 3.9GPA/25 DAT.

the purpose of the interview is to separate those who apply with similar stats. recently i see tons of people with 19-20AA and interview would be a critical process to determine who gets the last spot in a dental school. If you have 3.8+ with 25AA, then forget about it. As long as you don't say f word to the adcom, you'd be in no matter what. Of course there are exceptions. all Dental schools are selfish and there are three things they care the most: graduation rate, national board scores, and specialty rate. That's why the stats of incoming students play a huge role in the admission game. hate to say it, You could have no EC or volunteer or whatever to get into a dental school but mediocre stats with lots of experience would certainly get you nowhere.

See? I am fortunate to have gotten an interview, but if my stats are going to be an issue, then my chances are quite low, even though I did get an interview.

just be yourself. go into the interview with the intent of showing the adcoms why they should pick YOU over a student who may have perfect stats but ZERO personality.

no point in stressing about something you can't change. they've clearly seen something about you they like, or else they wouldn't have granted you the interview. congrats and gluck! 👍
