Hi,

Just wondering how you guys would answer these questions at an interview: "what are the trends in optometry right now?" or "where do you see optometry is going in the next 10-20 years?"

Thanks

I remember getting this question at my ICO interview, I believe.

I brought up the following points
(1)Managed care will play an increasing role in optometry, leading to an even greater percentage of primary eye care provided by optometrists rather than opthalmologists (I think mostly because from the HMO point of view, we're cheaper! Although, of course I didn't say that).
(That's what I consider the obvious one).
(2)Optometrists will probably be working more closely with opthalmologists in the future since laser surgeries currently available and those soon to be available will allow for more opportunities for surgery co-management Hopefully our relationship with them will improve.

I stayed away from talking about whether OD's will be allowed to do surgery in the future. I didn't want to give myself enough rope to hang on I guess.

More later I'm off to watch boston public.
