"What will you do if you don't get accepted this year?"

What exactly are the interviewers looking for with this one?

what would be the best answer?

Need some help with this one.

Thanks.

i would say stay in school and work on strengthening my academic prowess and improving my competitiveness as an applicant because i am dedicated to the profession of dentistry and by golly you're going to be a dentist no matter what it takes

i think they are asking what your plans are if you don't get accepted to dental school

They want to know just that--- what would you do?
No one can answer it for you... what WOULD you do?
I'm pretty sure they just want to see if you have a plan!!

Have you thought about it? There is ALWAYS the possibility that things don't go as you want them to. You might want to really take a step back and truly think about this. When I was 18 I entered the Marine corps, I didn't take my SATs or any other tests to get me into college. Well, I was kicked out of the Marines due to health reasons a couple years later. Guess what? I had not made a backup plan for myself and I closed all doors any kind of higher learning. I had no idea what I wanted to do, and I planned on staying in the service until I retired. I got stuck in a dead end job but I learned a lot about people so fair trade I guess. Thank goodness for community colleges, or I would have never been able to get into a university. The moral of this little story is to ALWAYS have a plan B.

I really think they are making sure you are dedicated to the profession. When I was asked this question in an interview I replied that besides cry a little, I would see what I needed to do to strengthen my app and apply again! And guess what? I got in! 👍
